Gametrailers has released part 2, Episode 8 of Bonus Round - The ethics of the Blogosphere. While I really enjoyed doing the show, I have to say that it makes me a sad panda that the best line of this show was cut out. At one point, Mike from Kotaku looked at me and said, "Well, out of the group, you (Destructoid) are kind of considered the most immature out of the bunch." My reply was simple ... "But we play videogames for a living!" I think Niero said it best, "Let's be honest. Nobody is going to win a Pulitzer Prize for writing about Princess Peach. So let's have some fun."
If you, the Dtoid Army do not agree with what we are trying to build, leave a comment letting us know. If you love it, as we do, let us know. If you are naked in front of a mirror right now, making a suit out of other peoples skin, all while singing Q Lazarus "Goodbye Horses" then we totally do the same thing, don't worry. We are in this because we love gaming and our community. I have my solid gold house and my rocket car. I just want to shine shoes. Mad props to anyone that knows where that is from.
When they asked the question about what was the next big thing in blogging, I was thinking "community". Destructoid is a perfect example of what can happen when you get a bunch of passionate people together, working towards a common goal. I love this site. It's heading in the right direction. The next couple years will prove that. Viva la dtoid!
Serious business and sexual innuendo, will it blend? Yes, it blends here at Destructoid perfectly and thats what sets it apart from the "professional" gaming news and blog sites. We need to stay the course and continue to be unique. Dtoid Army ftws! <3 you guiz. :333
The solid gold house and rocket car reference is from the episode of the Simpsons where the old bum becomes rich by suing the Itchy and Scratchy guy for ripping off one of his old cartoons.
Kotaku posted an entire article about Tifa hentai as if they discovered something new and original. They the followed that up with an article bitching and complaining about people making fun of them for posting said article. Yeah, real fucking mature.
Personally, I took my time deciding which set of immature game-bloggers I wanted my good name attached to, and I couldn't be happier to have a fake name plastered in comments on various parts of the site!
Honestly, I much prefer the seriously-this-isn't-that-important attitude I see here to any of the stodgy, uptight, defensive stuff I read on other gaming blogs and gaming sites.
That's why I placed the word in quotes. Some of these sites take themselves more seriously than others and want to give the impression that they are indeed professional.
Haha. Workman has a deep, Florida-man voice. I wonder why I've always imagined his voice higher... then again whiskey does do a number on the old chords. In comparison to Joystiq man's voice, Ron's was verse issued from the maw of hell.
A good watch, though the host is a choad.
Being professional doesn't mean you have to take yourself seriously. I think all the writers we currently on Destructoid's staff are indeed professional and do take serious pride in their work. However, that doesn't exclude them from having wit and being able to laugh.
Some people confuse professionalism with a lack of personality.
Oh snap, looks like The Man can't handle what Dtoid is dishing out. You got what Ron, like 8 words in? It was a regular 'stiq love fest.
Also, you should have excused yourself, gone to the bathroom, and come back with a proper beard to put McWhertor to shame.
You guys are doing an awesome job. if there's one problem on this site, it's that lemon isn't going to PAX.
I like where Destructoid is at right now. The Joystiq dude was talking about filling a niche.. and this site does that. As BuckFitches said, it is about the community here that others have.
Personally, I read DTOID and Kotaku on a daily basis. Kotaku for the news site (I really respect Crecente and think he does a great job running the news ship over there) but I come here for fun and community and analysis and more. If I didn't have either site, I would be missing something as they both give me something different.
As long as Destructoid keeps building to be a better community, it will grow in its own way. I dare say this site is like no other on the web, much less video gaming sites, when you factor in the huge community component.
In the Kotaku vs. Destructoid debate, here's one thing I like about Destructoid: I don't have to fucking audition if I want to comment. Fucking Kotaku douce bags.
It's ok that Christopher Grant had some more screentime. Ron already dominated the first one, so the next one will probably have a lot of Brian/Kotaku stuff.
What wasn't ok, was what he did with his screentime. God, can someone teach him how to act... like a normal guy? It made me think of this: if Ron and the Chris had a dance-off, it would be like this:
And I'd fully expect Chris to tell Ron: "C'est ne pas un move vraiment de robo!" after which Ron says "Haha, you're just upset because people like me better".
This guy feels like he is Bob Woodward or something? All I heard was "rules this, blabla journalism". It kinda makes sense that I can't even find his name (or staff info) on his own website without going blind. Also, he agrees that blogs are the place to go outside of the standard gamespot/ign/1up stuff, but at the same time feels like he belongs in the same league??
Dtoid is like the brotherly mate that introduces you to booze and drunk, willing women. Joystiq is more like the guy that rolls his D20 for his penis-check, before he tries his lvl1 speechcraft on the ugly girl at the back of the club.
The internets, like video games, are all about saying a do things you wouldn't do in real life. I'm not saying it's ok to be a internet jerk, but it is with out a doubt part of the interents purpose to give us a place to act immature and unproffesional.
Why would I want a "proffesional" blog site? Proffesional is what I have to live with 40-50 hours a week.
Destructoid has the news, it has humor, and really well written articles on stuff you can't get anywhere else, and it has it's social filter off, and I love it.
In short, the "immature" comment could be taken as a compliment.
I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong or insulting about being called immature, in this case. From a standpoint, Destructoid IS more immature than Kotaku. There's certainly more juvenile humor and shenanigans here than elsewhere. Kotaku has a more "professional" feel, most of the time, but it also suffers from being largely boring. Let's not get up in arms, people. We know The Crecente loves us.
Is it me or does Chris Grant come off like a huge douchebag every time I hear him speak? The first half of this video was a righteous circle jerk about how not accepting press junkets is somehow proof they're 'unbiased'. And they also don't sign NDAs and have a 'tumultuous' relationship with a certain publisher as a result of a story posted. How very fucking punk rock.
Then Ron jumps in with 'You fly me out somewhere and I'll take it'...amen brother. Amen.
I didn't mind Chris Grant as much, this time. I've decided that he must be an uptight nerd who's trying hard to be respectable. He seems to act a little sheepish, like he's trying to be cool, but not in an asshole sort of way. Lame, but I don't fault the poor guy too much, now.
Anyway, in case my last comment wasn't clear on this, I love the 'Toid.
Considering Dtoid actually has proper grammar and spelling, and puts humor and personality into their posts... I think they have a one up on Kotaku. A serious one up. A two up?
The Joystick guy and the Kotaku guy are acting like what they do is SERIOUS BUSINESS!
It's not. Much like the internet. One of the reasons I visit Dtoid is because it's casual and geniuinly funny (it's like having comedians write articles) instead of trying to masturbate to how serious and "fair and balanced" it is or could be.
Nobody cares about whether or not your review of Dead or Alive: Bouncier Breasts is fair and balanced. You're certainly not going to win any awards in supreme writing categories for it. Why bother.
I like how Joystiq and Kotaku have this air of self-importance. They come across as pompous and arrogant pricks. What the hell guys? You write about video games, the majority of the general public would consider you just a bunch of nerds. Why the elitist attitude?
I wish they would have shown Kotaku's comment towards Destructoid. At least Destructoid editors actually interact with and participate in the community just like everyone else. I for one love the site and the writing because it is offered from the perspective of someone that actually cares about what they are talking about. I can only hope that Destructoid retains what makes it shine indefinitely.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
ILU.
You guys are funner.
Kotaku calling you guys immature is like Fox News calling CNN biased.
Sounds good to me...
Ron Workman>Mike(who?)
i feel this picture needs to be used again
And I love Dtoid the way it is.
Honestly, I much prefer the seriously-this-isn't-that-important attitude I see here to any of the stodgy, uptight, defensive stuff I read on other gaming blogs and gaming sites.

The old bum was the original creator of the character Itchy, and he was voiced by Kirk Douglas.

@Riser Glen:
Also, Internet Matlocks!
What the fucks a blog?
I'm thinking its a sugar-coated treat.

Workman: "Hell yeah fly me out places!"
Why did mr joystiq not say anything in the first part and then they had to edit him having like 90% of the air time in part two?
keep it up.

I loved Ron's answer to junkets... hehe.
