I'm curious to know the overall order of voting. I want to know what won the "Best game of the year that isnt Skyrim" award.

I'm a huge fan of DarkSouls so I'm a little biased. Having said that, I'll play through the PC version of Skyrim once it's discounted. I need to understand why people have such massive boners because of it.

I'm giving Oblivion a shot and I like it. The graphics give me the feeling the game smells bad, but it's fun and compelling so far. Good stuff.

I love Skyrim the most out of all those games listed and I STILL think Skyrim is overhyped.

It's changed quite a bit in some places (magic, leveling) but in others it's practically the same (melee, stealth). You can tell it's a sequel to Oblivion.

Ah, okay.
I hated the melee and ranged combat of oblivion... and rarely use magic in games like this.
Overall, I didn't like oblivion. Seems I won't like skyrim either.

Admittedly, I haven't played Skyrim yet, but I think I may have reached the stage where everyone has been hyping it SO much (Reddit, Podtoid, etc.) that I don't think I'll actually be able to enjoy it when I finally get it in a couple weeks. I was excited before it came out. I was excited a couple weeks after it came out. Now, I'm just fucking sick of it...

Aside from looking a million times better graphically, the gameplay mechanics have greatly improved. The lockpicking system in Oblivion is gone, replaced by the one in Fallout 3. The skills and inventory systems are also totally revamped and streamlined. Magic now behaves like plasmids from Bioshock, in that spells are "equipped" to either hand and are cast real-time like attacks. Trolls will debate me on this, but the AI is also vastly improved.
This is the tip of the iceberg.

Dark Souls would be my GOTY... however the community choosing differently has no effect on my enjoyment of the game. This is the point where I should rage that people have different opinions, right?
Except for the PS3 version, right? Cause Bethesda really messed up with that one.

Wow, Serious Sam won Community Game Of The Year That Wasn't Skyrim Because It Was Blatantly Obvious Skyrim Would Completely Steamroll The Competition?
That's awesome! Totally unexpected. I haven't played it but I'm glad to see a comparatively smaller game being so popular.
I'm curious how many of those who voted for Skyrim played it on PS3. I've heard a whole lot of negativity about that version.
Anyways, thanks for organising this community award, Andy! Looking forward to next years edition, maybe the videogame landscape will be a very different place this time next year.
