Destructoid & friends South Florida events photo

Have you ever guy seen a guy jogging in a giant robot helmet?  What about a robot leading group of geeks in their own special cardiovascularly-impared 5k circuit? Me either, so that's precisely what I intend to do.

Destructoid and R3Y's Gameday are working with the organizers of the Ocean Drive 5k run to create special circuit for people that hate peeling themselves off the sofa. As if dressing in spandex wasn't going to kill me of embarrasment I'm probably going to be hospitalized from severe head trauma shortly thereafter. Please swing by to peel what's left of my dignity and brains off the pavement for the Mount Sinai Medical Foundation.

If you've been practicing Gears of War 2 and live in our hometown there might be a chance to buy your teeth back from the Pawn Shop! A few companies in South Florida are hosting tournaments in Dade and Broward county with prizes upwards of $400. If you're out of town don't worry: Destructoid is also bringing the spirit of our NARP back for Gamertag Radio's Community Vibes IV event at Club Ecco in February, so there's plenty of reasons to wear your Achievement Unlocked: Left the house shirts this season.

Not in South Florida?  Don't feel left out -- SFX-360 is giving away two games and an Xbox 360 console in a raffle on their forum. Hit the jump for the details!

Here's whats going on in town:

Saturday, Dec 13

$400 Gears 2 tournament 2v2, $30 entry per team tomorrow at 1pm, located at 3921 Alton Road on Miami Beach at Noobie Games

Tuesday, Dec 16 at GameWorks in Sunrise and Thursday at Boomers in Boca

GameWars is hosting a combined 4v4 COD4 and 2v2 GOW2 tournament.  Both tournaments start at 6:30pm and cost $20/player preregistered and $25/player at the door.  Email matt@mygamewars to preregister your team and check out who's registered at www.myspace.com/mygamewars.  Here is the breakdown:

4v4 COD4 (based on 10 teams or more)

1st Place-$400
2nd Place-$160
3rd Place-$80

2v2 GOW2 (based on 10 teams or more)

I need for you and Colette to move to Los Angeles now.

Or hook Chad up with a bunch of money and ideas for events like these.

Unless you're in completely crappy shape, everyone should be knocking out at least a 25 minute 5k.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
