Quantcast

I like cute DS titles, but so many of them seem to assume that a cute game must be for adults or children with no midway inbetween. A new game from Aspyr called Treasure World seems like it may be able to straddle that line perfectly though, dishing up some really cool new concepts and use of the Wi-Fi connection. Here's how it all works:

Treasure World asks players to help the Star Sweep clean the cosmos while collecting treasure! With the help of Star Sweep's friend the WIsh FInder, you'll be able to discover a multitude of new collectibles in minutes! Using the DS WIFI capability, the WIsh FInder can locate local WIFI signals, whether your DS is opened or closed! (Check out the trailer to see exactly how the WIFI detection works when we take you on a ride through Downtown Austin, TX.) For each signal he finds you'll unlock a special piece of treasure or Stardust. Sometimes the tresure you uncover will be for the WIsh FInder himself - with over 100 possible costume possibilities such as Panda, Feline and Anime, you can completely personalize your WIsh FInder. Additionally, you can use Stardust to purchase new treasure from the Star Sweep and refill Halley's (his Rocket) fuel cells and use your treasures to decorate your Trove Terrain and create some Trove Tracks!

This sounds like it could be Animal Crossing-addictive if it's as fun as it sounds. Aspyr also promises a website called Club Treasure World is coming soon where you chat with other users and set up trades. Most interesting indeed ... hit the jump to check out an exclusive video of the gameplay. It comes out June 30th, so I may have to keep an eye on this one!

It's like that music making thing from Mario Paint...only with trees. It's so ridiculous, I want it.

Based on the the lack of comments, I think some people are being turned off by the cutesy visuals. But give it a look; it's actually a pretty unique concept. You guys complain there aren't enough of those in games, right?

I've got to say for a game that I still don't fully understand this looks like it will deliver in both the beats and good times departments. Oh and the WiFi thing is cool it will feel like I'm looting local businesses for personal gain.

The way you can find treasures reminds me a bit of finding pokemon in different regions, and how like putting a decent team together, you could put treasure sets together to make songs. You could make your own personalised theme song and it constantly evolves as you wander round with your ds.

What does Dale North think of this? I'm definitely getting a Mario Paint vibe, which is totally cool.
