Welcome to the new undisputed benchmark of awesome-because-we-said-so: Destructoid Editor's Choice Awards. (So fresh and so clean, clean.) The greatest. The worthy. The games sitting on the shelf that deserve to reduce your paycheck to smitherenes. Destructoid's editors sat down this weekend in a hot tub with bats and shotguns and voted on our most favorite games of the year, both by category and console.
At the end of the day we'll also post the results of the Destructoid Reader's Choice Awards as well. You'll be surprised to see what the 224 countries represented in our readership have agreed on. But really, Red Steel DOESN'T looked horrible. Granted it is NO HD game, but it doesn't look terrible. Heck, I took it to someone's house and put it on their 42 inch plasma with component cables and he said "wow, that looks REALLY good!"
I know, I know, you have to keep the flames from flickering.
The suxxors and pwnds was X360 last name for most part of the year. Then as the year go by horror stories about the PS3 became more known and finaly materialized when the console launched. Everybody was (and is) throwing stones at Sonys way.
Meanwhile M$ managed to snatch some exclusives from Sony like Grand Theft Auto 4 and Virtua Fighter 5. Rumors about Metal Gear 4 on X360 and maintaining a solid online fuction. Then Gears of War happened and got the Game of the Year as is an exclusive.
I think this is how you do business. Deal with developers, offer them the chance to sell more copies due to installed base (if they are reluctant offer some money) and snatch exclusive that will just end up selling competition consoles.
Im no Xbox fanboy but I believe is cool how they gained momentum and managed to be the underdog to a solid contestant.
As for the Wii I dunno... Whats gonna happen 2 years from now when other consoles will have polished second generation games and the Wii have gamecube looking games? I hope the Wii controller gimmick dont wear off and the Wii becomes another DS in terms of success... Well anyways it gonna be a while to see Metroid on PS5

360 had a good year, ps2 had a better year if you're goin off which console had the most to offer from a games perspective, from a hardware perspective the xblm improvements and 1080p support, as well as the release of the HDDVD player, yea 360 is definately justified as the console of the year.
I absolutely agree that the 360 is the best console this year. It's creation of some amazing games, packed with it's amazingly fun and robust online service makes me keep coming back day after day despite the Wii collecting dust.
