Destroy giant robots in LEGO Rock Band... wait, what? photo

Yesterday, much to everyone's non-surprise, LEGO Rock Band was revealed to the world. Despite the fact that we've had time to prepare for its arrival, reactions were... mixed.

The "family friendly" marriage of the LEGO and Rock Band brands has some people crying foul, perhaps worried that it means wearing their Rock Band "guitar icon" t-shirt won't be as cool on the playground any more. Others are open to the fact that maybe playing Rock Band with LEGOs could be at the very least, I don't know, fun?

Regardless, we don't know enough about the game yet to really make a final call. But a listing on Xbox.com has shed light on some game details, more specifically, the LEGO-theme "rock challenges." Examples include playing a "killer riff to destroy a giant robot, summon a storm, and demolish a skyscraper using the power of rock!"

The listing also mentions brick collection, which will allow you to build vehicles, and the ability to decorate your band's hang-out. LEGO Rock Band will also feature a mode that's easier than Easy... for the children. Like this kid.

[Thanks, power-glove]

Well I thought I was going to be able to pass on this and just pick up The Beatles: RB.

Looks like I was wrong.

Had they mentioned robot destruction in the official announcement, I'm sure... Well, no, the Internet can and will bitch about absolutely everything. But now they've got me curious.

@sickNasty:

Less grammar, more leaving out a word after a revision. Nice catch.

Hm, well, at least it won't be just Rock Band 2, but with Legos. Still, I'm apprehensive. I'm not sure who they're marketing it to with the songs they announced, since the game looks like a kid's game but has songs more popular with older gamers, as well as a band like Good Charlotte that I don't think even kids with no taste in music like anymore.

Still apprehensive. The bombastic side of me likes the idea, but for me, it strays from the central experience of Rock Band, at least in a narrative capacity. It sounds like the kind of "meathead rock" thing GH is now known for. RB has always been the classic rock to GH's 80's metal for me.

I think 'cautious enthusiasm' is the term to use.

I just noticed that the listing also implies that there will be downloadable content for it. Interesting.

All I really want is to have my lead singer wear that wierd triangle-alien helmet from some of the later space-themed LEGO sets, and I'll be a happy man.

OH! And the stage pyrotechnics have to be composed of those plastic flames!

@pendelton21 -- YES! I agree, we need to have plastic flames as well as plastic laser lights in LEGO RB! I'm pretty keen on seeing how this game turns out.

I think the new challenges they created for this game should demonstrate that the parties involved aren't just making a cookie cutter RB game with minimal differences. If they go LEGO they gotta go all the way!

Wait, what? Rock Band was one of the most "family friendly" games to come out in a long time.
