Destroy All Humans PS3 canceled in America, not canceled in Europe photo

Here's a weird one for you. It would seem that the upcoming Destroy All Humans sequel, Path of the Furon, had its PlayStation 3 release canceled very recently. However, THQ has today confirmed that the game will indeed go ahead on Blu-ray ... just not in North America.

THQ supposedly blamed "development issues" on the PS3 version's cancellation. If that's the case, why no PlayStation 3 release in America? THQ explains:

"Destroy all Humans: Path of the Furon will be released on both the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3 formats on February 13th 2009 across Europe. Due to the game being shipped earlier in North America on 2nd December a decision was made to proceed exclusively with the Xbox 360 format in that market."

That seems very odd, doesn't it? Why not just delay the PS3 version rather than make it a 360 exclusive in America? There seems to be no logic to this move, outside of abject laziness. One can only assume that a PS3 version will hit the US eventually, but until then, Blu-ray fans will have to look elsewhere.

Its nothing to do with development. Its nothing to do with the platform itself.

The game was going to flop. Period. It was going to flop hard. Why publish a game that wont sell?

However, in Europe, multiplatform games are starting to sway both ways.. so it would be a major gamble to cancel it in Europe.

They werent lying when they claimed 'development issues'.. they just pointed the finger in the wrong direction. When they say "We couldnt make the game run well on PS3", they clearly mean "We cant make a game well. So we're just going to reduce the number of discs published. The most cost effective means to do that is to cut out the BDs"

I would be disappointed if the second one didn't disappoint me enough already. There was just something..........off about that game. But canceled in America? Huh? I guess this series sells better in Europe.

I doubt it's "abject laziness" and more to do with the huge process and cost of certifying and distributing in each region.

CptUnderpant, didn't sony just tout a global certification process? Was it PSN only?

Since we're throwing ideas, let's say Microsoft paid them to keep Americans on the 360. You know, just sayin'. If there is one game that would have turned the tides it's Destroy All Humans.

This is a secret maneuver to create hype on ps3 users so they all buy this game to show the distributor that a release for the PS3 is worth the money.

Isnt it true?

As much as I enjoy my Wii and PS3, this kind of crap is really pushing me to get a 360. Maybe if I drop enough hints to the wife, I'll see one in a few weeks. :)

That makes no sense. Is it some sort of MS [timed-or not] exclusivity or something? This move just serves as a negative news about PS3, that a game is being cancelled.

Doesn't this "series" of games blow baby chunks anyways?

I don't care about this at all as my PS3 can live without this game as the lasts ones were nothing special.

What is with THQ? First they canceled the PS3 version of Saints Row 1, then they say how they're having problems developing for the PS3 with Red Faction: Guerrilla, now they're canceling Destroy All Humans for PS3 in North America. What the hell is wrong with their development studios?

Japan has been doing this for years with there home made games, this is nothing new (apart from Europe keeping a game in this case away from the rest of the world).

Also before anyone mentions it, Americans and Englishmen DO speak different languages!

Thank fuck we can screw America over for once, no matter how crappy a screw-up it actualy is.

I stick my tounge out at all Americans and make farting noises in your general direction :p

A separate release in America means there would need to be 2 add campaigns. One will be costly, never mind 2 staggered ones.

It may seem odd, but they obviously don't have confidence (as koehler83 was pointing out) in the game to stand on its own. I know the first was a big hit, but the 2nd, not so much. Then there was the lame Wii port.

This time next year, we'll be saying "TH-who?". I mean I love Saints Row 2, even though its custom character creator reeks of Smackdown vs. Raw minus the extra goodies [I'd really like to give my avatar some Road Warrior armor to go along with her massive green mohawk, thank you very much]. Didn't they just let lay off a beaucoup of their devs and staff?

I shed no tears for the loss of a THQ game. Nobody will buy this pile of shit, 360 or ps3.

The PS3 is indeed region free, but you'd better be playing on an HDTV. If you try to play European games on a North American SDTV or vice-versa, you'll get an error saying that the resolution isn't right.
