Dennis Dyack says there is a 'strong possibility' for Eternal Darkness 2 photo

The thing about horror games is, you can usually classify them into a handful of labels. Survival horror is the most popular and most titles fall under that umbrella, but some have suggested "combat horror" as a branch of the same tree (in which the character you play is not your average helpless citizen). While I like what I'm getting when I buy a horror title, I usually know what I'm going to be doing.

Eternal Darkness turned all those concepts upside down for me, and it still sits proudly as one of my personal favorites thanks to some ingenious ways of scaring the player. Imagine my excitement, then, at this comment from Dennis Dyack, head of Silicon Knights, in regards to the future of the Eternal Darkness series:

"There is a chance; we love all the games we work on. We don't want to be pigeon-holed [into a genre], we want to be known for strong content...There's a strong chance we'll return to it, but there's no announcements yet."

Of course, Silicon Knights has their hands full with Too Human right now, but it's awfully pleasant to think that there might be a future with more Eternal Darkness in it. Although if they come up with something equally as hair-raising as the Sanity Meter again, I think i might have to wear a diaper to my first playthrough.

I watched my friend play the first one and seriously...that game is like being drunk while sober with the insanity bar. Just imagine how crazy it'd be if you were drunk or high...or something of the sort.

I need to play this though. He was pretty much raping it every time I saw him playing it.

Seems they are listening to fans desires for a sequel. Great news.

Ring the bells.

Do freaking Want.

Please on Wii. there's a speaker, there's motion controls that can go wacky, there's a nunchuck connecter that they can convince you isn't working, there's battery power that won't really be depleted . . .

Do freaking Want.

Imagine the tricks they could pull on current systems with this. Damn a sequel would be all kinds of awesome...

You know, Nintendo owns a patent to the sanity meter system used in the first ED. So technically, the sequel would have to be on the Wii.

This would be fine, but I would just want them to do a really stylized ED sequel, not a realistic one. Know what I'm saying?

If this happens I'll mostly forgive Dyack for being such a crybaby douche over Too Human... Mostly.

They have to do it now. They opened their mouth, and they can't take it back. They cannot torture me like that.
To this day, ED is still one of favorite games. period.

@Tubatic:

That was the first thing I thought of too. Fake Invites from people who actually are online, you open it, it's an invitation to DIE. It counts down your achievement points a little bit, maybe even spelling things out with the numbers. When you save, it shows that it's saving over the file for a different game, like it's saving over your Halo 3 file or Lost Odyssey file or something. Randomly kicks on a song from your custom soundtrack but messes with the speed and pitch.

360 PLZ

@Fana7ic:

EPIC WIN.

Also, stay away from the bathtubs.

I think the game has to be on Wii. I thought Nintendo had control over the IP. Sanity function, I know they own. Anyways- The game is good, I haven't beaten it but I've been playing it on and off for like...2-3 years? I dunno. Anyways there is a ton of cool stuff in it but we need MUCH better gameplay. Combat was abysmal in that game, spell system sort of clunky too. Puzzles were decent though. Do it right SK.

One time, I was playing Eternal Darkness and it said it was going to erase my memory card. Press B to cancel and I pressed B and it said it was erasing the card. I totally fell for it and I freaking flipped my lid. Silly funny game... Brilliant!
