Denis Dyack makes bet with NeoGAF forum users about Too Human photo

While Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack has to be commended for his bravery in speaking directly to gamers in this matter, I have to admit I flinched when I read the whole story: it seems he has challenged NeoGAF forum users to stand up for or against the upcoming title "Too Human". According to Next-Gen.Biz:

"The deal is: Prior to the release of Too Human, posters say whether they are "for" or "against" the game, judging from previews and footage they've seen. If the game comes out and gamers find that it's a steaming pile of hot garbage, then Dyack will where [sic] a tag under his forum name that says "Owned by GAF."

If Too Human is well-received, all those who voted "against" will be tagged "Owned by Too Human."

Denis, Denis, Denis. What in the name of God would make you do something like this, on the INTERNET of all places, where people flame each other mercilessly because they have nothing better to do (until their moms yell at them to clean up their rooms)?

Since I haven't played the game personally, I can't really comment on which stance I would go with (if I participated, which I don't plan to). Some of the early word on the game has been mixed, however, so I suppose we'll have to wait and see. One thing's for sure, Dyack is certainly standing behind the title -- let's see what the oh-so-forgiving Internet makes of that come release time.

[Thanks, Joe]

Write me down for "against" (whatever that means?), but even if people are proven wrong, does he really think people will admit their defeat? Especially on the internet? And who can prove someone's opinion wrong?

This all smells.

Is he trying to hypnotize people into believing its going to be the best game ever or something. Seems like every 5 minutes hes popping up somewhere boasting about how good its going to be. I cant remember the last time i had a Dyackless day.

AGAINST! Purely out of spite. Im already sick of this game.

I'm with Rockvillian. It seems like there isn't any sort of criteria; there's no definition for "well received". Was Assassin's Creed well received? Yeah, probably, but it turned out to be junk. Games can be well received hot garbage. What happens then?

Has anyone ever played Eternal Darkness? I always thought that game looked bad but turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time.

If you never played ED (which most people havent) do yourself a favor and pick up one of the greatest games of last generation. After that maybe you will have faith in Silicon knights like I do.

Who makes the ultimate decision as to the winner? Or does each person get to claim they've won therefor accomplishing nothing?

I don't see this ending well, but it's interesting if you look at the argument from a logical perspective.Look at it this way:

If you vote "For" :
Risk: None. (Only Dyack has to put the "Owned by GAF" in his tag.)
Benefit: None.

If you vote "Against" :
Risk: Having "Owned by Too Human" in your tag for a while.
Benefit: Possibility of one man having "Owned by GAF" in his tag.

It's not exactly brilliant, but it can be seen as smart from a business perspective. I personally think the game is going to end up being only average.

Cant wait for this game myself. I'm glad someone else ran the risk/benefit for me so I don't have to. As for the criteria of a winner, I would imagine it would be based on the metacritic score being above or below are certain percentage?

I'm not putting it up there with Force Unleashed, but I'm looking forward to it. +1 to Dyack for easy PR move that's bound to draw attention to his game.

... Like fish in a barrel.

I'm looking forward to this game I think it is a little silly for him to do this but screw it I hope the game is a blast and is rated really high and sells a lot of copies and all the against people......well nothing really because everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it isn't founded in anything real

MAn, this pisses me off. I'm really looking forward to Too Human, and as it was gathering steam for 360 and building up it looked so damn cool, but just about everything Dyack does in the media just makes me question it. The game might really suck now. I wouldn't have thought that several months ago before he started spouting shit every time some criticizes it.

maybe not a smart move, but a ballsy one

at any rate I'd still rather have a sequel to Eternal Darkness

The point of this dumb crap is more marketing/hype.

I think Dyack forgot the most important camp in his post, Indifference.

By making you choose for or against hes making you invest something into the game before it comes out. Considering its almost a decade in production, I don't have high hopes for it, but I'm neither for nor against it. I'll have a look if it's well received, I'll continue to not care if it isn't.

Put me down for don't care.

this whole production for ten years argument angers me, it was in production for a full ten years, they put it down and stopped work on it several times to make other games. they actually started the concept for this game before Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen. Plus the argument that this game is going to suck based off of DD attitude is like saying that the lisa mona was shit because devinci was an jerk or that fight club was a crappy movie because brad pitt thinks he is a good actor and talks about it. What a joke, why don't you get the game on August 19th and give it a shot then decide what is up with it

HEY EVERYBODY!!! LOOK AT ME!!! LOOK LOOK LOOK!!!

Shut the fuck up and finish your game dude. Stop picking fights with the internets to try to prove your badassery. Seriously, I would like Too Human to be great. Spend your energy making it so instead of this ridiculous nonsense.

@elemental150 "why don't you get the game on August 19th and give it a shot then decide what is up with it"

Because like I said, I don't care about this game and don't have high hopes for it. I do not buy games I suspect will be no good to check whether I was indeed correct. The best course of action is to continue to ignore the thing until I hear it is good from someone other than someone involved in the games design.

Can't really take a stance on a game I dont care about (I dont have a X360).

I'm however commending his move. Balls. Plus, talk crap about it, praise it: as long as people talk, it's good business.
