Quantcast

"Kicks ass" works in two ways here. First off, great trailer, Atlus. It really gets you pumped for the game. But it also kicks your ass, and reminds you how much the game kicks your ass.

I haven't had a lot of time to spend with my review copy due to travel, but the time I have had has been great. There's not really anything else like this action RPG out on the PS3. But, as you'll see in the trailer, it has no problem letting you know that the game is difficult. You start out as a weakling, a nobody. And you're dead, really. Everything is a bitch. You will die so frequently that it isn't even funny. When you do succeed, it will be like the heavens parted. It will be a glorious day. And then you're off to the next dungeon to be beat down again. I can't wait unitl my schedule clears up so that I can return for more sweet punishment.

Seriously, though: There's no shame in saying that you suck at this game. Everyone sucks at this game.

Demon's Souls launches on October 6th. A deluxe edition ($69.99) will include a 160-page strategy guide and a collectible slipcase. Pre-order the game and get the soundtrack and a 40-page artbook. Nice.

This game does look cool and all that but games that are hard just for the sake of being hard suck balls IMO!

I'll have to rent this one to test the waters out.

I'm in the same Soap Opera dilemma as Chibi, I am super pumped for this game and I can't wait to have hours of endless fun with it, yet I'm uncertain, it doesn'thave the same WOW COOL! appeal of some flashier games and that makes me unsure about whether I should buy this one following my brain or going with my heart and buying Red Faction...

The commentary sounded so much like an old school 8bit or 16bit console game commercial. I like.

Well I'm up to the challenge. IN the meantime I'll keep grinding on Dissidia.

Okay, that video just convinced me that I have to go out and buy this game ASAP. There hasn't been that much video or the actual combat in this game, and now that I see the dodging mechanics and weapon variety, I'm sold.

got this back at the end of july. been avoiding coverage as i've not played it for a couple of weeks - not through boredom but really busy. anyway, great game and very rewarding. the trailer needed more tower knight though.

WRONG. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Check my profile for a link to my website, where I posted a recent review. It explains why Demon's Souls' difficulty is fair, and how it will actually teach you how to become a better gamer.

I'm whetting my appetite for this (and Dragon Age: Origins) by playing Oblivion and the original Monster Hunter - Oblivion for the RPG elements, MH for being slightly tough. Demon's Souls makes them both look just very, very ugly.

Is this game considered good difficulty or bad difficulty ? Bad difficulty meaning cheap and try, try again mechanics, or good difficulty in that it's based on skill and not just replaying everything until you have it down exact.

it's actually pretty easy if you utilize the co-op system (assuming you are alive to use the co-op system).

Read my above comment: I think it'll answer your question perfectly.

Spoiler: I like to think of myself as a master of identifying "cheap, or fake" difficulty in my experience with over a hundred different 3D action games. Demon's Souls is one of the most fair titles on the market.

I agree with Magnalon's review. I also can confidently say I don't suck at this game.

Hmmm... no easy mode? I was looking at this game as a possible purchase, but if I want my ass kicked I play online shooters... I usually play RPG games to just relax. :(

I definitely want some DToid co-op nights. I'm going to wait until the domestic release, though. Hail Atlus and what not. There's an old thread in the message boards we could bump to coordinate shit.

I'm thinking this game must be mine.

Is it only being released in the deluxe edition? Or is it like BlazBlue in that it's only available in Deluxe AT FIRST and then it goes to a regular edition?

@dinnertime
The Deluxe Edition has a fancy case and a fucking giant 150 pages guide for 9 dollars more than the normal edition, if you preorder the Deluxe or the Normal edition you'll get a 40 page artbook and a soundtrack CD.

It's nice to finally play a "hard" game. All games now a days seem to let you win. Instead of playing the game over and over just to beat it the first time, like the old days, games now a days are so easy they make trophies/achievments to give you incentive to beat the game over and over. Lame.

This game looks amazing, it is about time a good rpg exclusive comes out for the ps3. Feel free to add me on PSN (psn id zod000) for co-op, I should have this and be playing on day one (assuming the game isn't totally crashtastic and in need of patching).
