The game that I like to call The Ballbuster of 2009 is going on a limited-time discount at a few retailers. Unapologetic RPG Demon's Souls will be $29.99 at GameStop and Amazon.com for a short while. That's about $20 off the original price.
If you haven't picked it up yet, know that it's really difficult, but we called it the ultimate multiplayer experience anyway.
The game was a huge success. See what all the fuss was about. Get it now on Amazon or GameStop's websites. I love how the pre-owned copies are more than the new ones on GameStop's page.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'D. WANT. BUT. I. NEED. A. PS3. :(
In fact, most of the game is pretty easy. So if you haven't played it because you're a pussy stop being such a pussy and go buy this fucking game, it's absolutely amazing and unlike anything else on the market.
Maybe I'll get it for this $30 or cheaper if I find it used on Gamefly for that much, but things like 3D Dots are still higher on my "must own" list.
The entire game is a masterpiece. I've never played a more beautifully crafted piece of art, that plays so smooth at the same time. Really deserves more credit than it gets.
Holy shit, you REALLY need to play more good games.
Btw, it wasn't that difficult. Suck it up, girls.
BUY THIS FUCKING GAME PEOPLE.
And, assuming playthrough 2 is as good as playthrough 1, I see no reason it won't be one of my five top games ever.
Search your heart, you know it to be true.
If they never showcased the dev names at the start most people would have no idea this game was made in Japan. I really don't see how the "weaboo" thing fits. Aside from the maybe 5 katanas in the game, there is 0 japanese culture in it.
Of course it might be helpful to know how far you got. The game can start off rather dull. Once you find your own playstyle it really begins to pick up. This is one of the first RPGs where I actually had to manage my equipment.
BRB HANGING SELF.
Demon's Souls is my favorite game this gen and the combat system is probably the best I've ever experienced in a 3D game, but I wouldn't go so far to say the entire game is a masterpiece.
If anything need the Super Mario Galaxy 2 treatment, it's Demon's Souls. Keep the gameplay all the same, double the size of the world, add more enemies, and maybe add a nice story to tie it all together (the first was... lacking) and THEN you'll have a masterpiece.
And for all the people who whine about it being hard - cry some more. Maybe if you stopped playing the game like a generic hack-n-slash and actually used caution and planning, you wouldn't be complaining.
Just stating the irrefutable truth.
What elements are those? You level up about 10 stats and use varying armors and weapons to give you special bonuses. That's it. If that makes it japanese, then you better be prepared to call fallout japanese. As the RPG elements in that game are very similar, right down to repairing broken equipment.
Also, these are western dragons. Dragons in Eastern mythology are long and slim, which these are not. The game is western in feeling, there is no real use in debating that.
As for difficulty, I don't think it is unreasonably difficult. I certainly died a lot more than I did in other RPGs, like Oblivion or Fallout but I felt like most deaths were due to some experiment gone wrong.
The game just asks you to think through a situation and be cautious, and punishes you for mistakes, but not unfairly.
I would sum up the difficulty like this.
Every time you die (which will certainly happen) your thoughts will be as such, "Man, I really messed that up, but I can definitely do this if I make a few adjustments." Never will you think "That is completely unfair, this is lame."
That said, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
DONE.
Best Game 2009!!
Buy this shit!! You will play it 3 times back to back and STILL WANT MORE!!!!
