Renegade Kid are the guys behind the second best FPS on the Nintendo DS, Dementium: The Ward (the first being Metroid). For some reason a system that seems tailor made for some really great FPS gaming almost completely lacks it. Renegade Kid sees a problem with this. That's probably why they put out Moon and are about to release Dementium II. However, they don't just see the lack of FPSs on the systems as a problem, but the lack of original games on the DS in general.
Publishers don't seem to agree with them, however. Jools Watsham, Renegade Kid's lead designer, has been having some trouble getting a publisher for the company's game ideas. It seems he's basically been told that companies don't want to take the risk on untested games that don't have an established franchise or a movie tie-in. I can imagine that hearing that over and over again when you think you've got a great game idea on your hands can be immensely aggravating, and so Watsham has decided to do something about it.
In the above video he rambles on about trying to get a game developed and eventually comes to the point that he'd really love it if you helped support his company's attempt to put out more original games on the DS. He wants to collect around 100,000 comments on the above video's YouTube page so that he can show developers that people are actually interested in original IP on the DS. It seems a little desperate to me, but so far I've enjoyed both of Renegade Kid's games so I want to see them make more, and thus I have commented. If you're up for it head over and give them some support.

Posted. Also shared it to my facebook. I may not care much about fps games on the DS. But as someone who doesnt play much of any franchises like CoD or Madden, I'm pissed at developers assuming thats what I want.
Shut your bloody cornhole for once, the experience is great on Metroid Prime Hunters online, the controls feel very nice when you get used to it, which is in a couple of minutes.
I have not seen good enough FPS on DS because everybody act lik ean idiot when developing on it. Almost no one makes enough effort
Done. I have commented on his Youtube video. I haven't played his games on the DS because I don't like scary games(they make me cry). But I fully support origional IP.
And judging by the fact that Dementium and Moon haven't even sold 200,000 copies TOTAL, I think the majority of DS players agree as well.
Hell, the original DOOM looks AND plays better than these DS FPSs.
I know it sounds a bit off base, but I'm not commenting on this guy's video in hopes that he will stop making horrible FPSs on a system that can handle them graphically or control-wise.
Making FPS after FPS (and a sequel no less) isn't exactly making "original IPs."
WTH are you talking about- fps games suck on the ds- I can deal with the graphics but the controls are terrible, no matter how you cut it it is tough to use a stylus and shoulder buttons, if you use your thumb then it is near impossible to get to the dpad and alpha buttons, all the way around it just isn't meant for fps- the psp does it somewhat better (analog helps) but in the same veinthe x [] ^ o buttons weren't meant for camera control either- until ther is a platform w/2 analogs (looking at you pandora) portable fps is just not going to be that great
Dude Metroid Prime Hunters was what got me hooked on the series, so to say that a good FPS can't be done on DS is a lie. I was so pissed when Gamecock dropped out on Renegade Kid with their "secret project". Here is hoping it will be revived. Also, if that game they showed makes it, I will buy it!
DinnertimeNinja: You might not know this, but Dementium II was/is already in the pipeline to be released. So, this isn't really about that game.
Renegade Kid actually has another new project (that they shortly announced after Moon's release) and that is what publishers don't want to take a risk on. Even though their games haven't done gangbusters (they -have- gotten some recognition and achievement awards between the two) they still want to create games for the DS, DSiWare, Wii and possibly other systems. What Jools is trying to prove is that there is an audience for non-brand games, not just FPSs on the DS - the video even shows that.
I believe anyone who wants to create a game and is willing to prove a point deserves that much credit. It's about making space for the smaller game companies, giving them a chance to breathe in an industry that is getting more competitive and convoluted.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
The lack of FPS in the system is probably due to the importance of high quality 3D graphics for that particularly genre.
@Camiwaits: There isn't a lack of first person shooters on the DS, it's just that the controls suck so nobody plays them.

Do something interesting!
The second lacks a good enemy AI, to make them more challenging. The first one plays good enough.
