Dell announces WoW-themed laptops that'll cost you a pretty penny photo

If you had the option to purchase a laptop that could dispense a burst of flavor straight into your face, which flavor would you want the most? Does the gnarly taste of World of Warcraft sound appetizing? Dell and Blizzard hope so, for they've teamed up to bring us the sweet-looking (but equally expensive) XPS M1730 WoW Edition notebook PC.

Available starting December 13, the latest XPS comes with a plethora of WoW goodies. Should you be in the market for a powerful yet not-so-portable computing device, you'll also have the choice between getting the notebook decked out with custom Alliance or Horde artwork.

Hit the jump to see the actual system specs, in addition to what kind of swag comes with the $4,499 beast of a laptop.

WoW fans, here's your incentive for dropping some serious dough on this computer:

  • Custom design featuring original art by Blizzard artists on LCD back, and Honor Badges on the wings
  • World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft: The Burning CrusadeTM  pre-loaded on system, including the latest content updates
  • Original desktop background artwork and screensavers
  • A World of Warcraft-themed backpack that includes:
    • Retail box copies of World of Warcraft, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and the Warcraft Battle Chest , which includes with Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Warcraft III: Frozen Throne
    • Latest Brady Games strategy guides for World of Warcraft, The Burning Crusade, and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
    • World of Warcraft DVD with a behind-the-scenes look at “The Making of WoW
  • A special Quest Envelope that ships separately with exclusive rare items:
    • A Golden Ticket allowing customers to receive a special custom FigurePrint based on the actual World of Warcraft character that they play
    • An Account Upgrade Certificate enabling the upgrade of a World of Warcraft account to receive the Collector’s Edition pets from both the original World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition and the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Collector’s Edition
    • A World of Warcraft Beta Club Card to enable customers to take part in upcoming public beta tests

The system specifications for the XPS M1730 World of Wacraft Edition (starting at $4,499) are as follows:

  • Aggressive styling with backlit Honor Badges, touchpad and keyboard
  • LightFX perimeter lighting for added immersion during game play
  • Full-size keyboard with 10-key number pad to help navigate games
  • AGEIA PhysX mobile processor and built-in Logitech GamePanel LCD
  • NVIDIA SLI graphics power and 512MB of dedicated video RAM with DirectX 10 realism
  • Optional over-clockable Intel Extreme Edition CoreTM  2 Duo processor, up to 3.4GHz
  • Optional dual RAID 7,200 RPM hard drives for fast access or even faster access with an optional 64GB solid state drive
  • Full HD 17-inch widescreen and available Blu-ray Disc to provide the ultimate mobile viewing experience
  • 7ms average display response time to ensure quick overall system performance
  • Complete wireless connectivity with built-in Optional Mobile Broadband, Wireless-N, Bluetooth, and Dell’s exclusive Wi-Fi CatcherTM
  • Built-in camera and digital array microphones to clearly see and flame the competition
  • Dual headphone jacks, noise-isolating ear buds and a portable ExpressCard media remote

Talk about a monstrosity! I can see how someone might mistake these specs for desktop PC hardware. I'm sure this thing not only weighs a ton, but consumes battery power quickly too.

Oh well, such is the price one must pay for an uber-laptop geared towards WoW geeks.

Even though this is lame and stupidly expensive, I do have to say that I like Dell's XPS line. I've been using my XPS M170 laptop for about 2 years now and it's treated me very well.

When you buy something like this strictly for WoW, that's when you know it's time to sever the umbilical cord.

Jesus, this computer is overkill. The words SLI, overclockable, RAID and laptop do not belong in the same sentence.

For this price, I'd expect the 'optional' CPU, blu-ray drive and RAID array to be included.

Dude..... that is.... god I can't even think of a word appropriate for the sheer and total lameness one must feel carrying that pig around...

Also, Savage, why that hate?

Does it come with an air conditioner to offset the amount of heat that it puts out? I mean, for four and a half grand, you’d think they could throw one in...

Yeeeahh... I'm going to have to echo the observation of how ironic it is that a super awesome Laptop is decked out for WoW... a relatively low taxing game.

Can it make toast? Because if I buy anything for $4,500, it damn well had better be able to heat a piece of bread for my consumption.

Damn it people, buy $4,500 worth of Criterion DVDs. Or stock. Not a damn laptop.

I don't wanna come back and play it again, but I'm finding it harder and harder to resist every day.

Toshiba has a nice gaming notebook, not really portable per say as all these "Gaming Laptops" suffer from portability problems, but I guarantee you it's easier to pack this baby up and take it over to your friends for a LAN night.

For that price though I'd expect at least a year of pre-paid wow or something.
