Delayed: Metal Gear Solid 4 held hostage until Q2 of 2008 photo

When Metal Gear Solid 4 was given a spring 2008 release date, people bemoaned the long wait as if they didn't expect it. It seems they better get moaning some more, as it's been announced that the game has now been pushed back even more to Q2 of 2008, turning a March release into an April-June one.

Konami's press release states that, instead of March, the developers had been working toward a winter 2007 launch, which has confused some people, although it could just be suggesting that this had been the company's intention before Kojima announced the 2008 launch window.

Konami had initially intended to release Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots this winter and has been working on the production of the title. Konami has decided to delay the title's release in order to make further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide.

This is sure to cause a great wailing and gnashing of teeth among the local villagers, as nobody likes a delay. Still, if it makes sure Guns of the Patriots is as excellent as I'm hoping it'll be, one can't really complain.

Good, that means when I'm finally forced to buy a PS3 for MGS4 the PS3 will be cheaper (hopefully).

"Konami has decided to delay the title's release in order to make further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide."

Translation: We can't get it working right, so we need more time.

I don't mind that, since Lair evidently needed more time.

Maybe Konami is just trying to avoid all the 07 titles that were delayed until Q1 08.

If it wasnt for the bluray player on the ps3 Id say they should have delayed calling it a gaming console until 2nd q2008. I mean its getting ridiculous.

yeah with gta4 coming out in march its probably a safe move to delay metal gear until later. its not like it wouldnt sell but it would probably sell more with more titles not around to hinder the sales.

the more i talked with people about it so far today, my general public friends wanting the game and not all about the internet news were at the conclusion... "That sucks, but normal, stuff always gets delayed, will just play something else till its out"

That's kinda the sad truth, they need to put estimates of release out as legit dates... but they only truly know later if it's possible or not

Just give it up 360 fanbois. MGS4 wont come out to the 360. Its like M$ letting Halo come to the ps3, it wont happen.. And if you by chance happen to indeed (by some act of god) get MGS4 on the 360, it would probably be closer to 2010, and would end up just a bad port across 3 discs. ..Sorry to burst your bubble.

Marlboro, you should pray Workman doesn't see the blasphemy you just posted. Konami confirmed a 360 release and it's not like if MS released Halos on the Triple. Konami is not owned by Sony. Do your homework before stepping into the classroom.

Prepare for firey flames...

@Marlboro

While I don't think it will happen, at least on the same date...

Sony does not own Konami, Kojima does not get to say what platform his game comes out for, and I seem to remember when that Capcom said 'RE4 will never ever come out on anything but the gamecube', then it got released on the PS2 and PC.

If the PS3 version fails to make up the development costs, which considering how long the game is taking I think could be possible, you might see a 360 version a year or two later.

Well, friends, your choice in this round of the console wars are:

1. 360 that you don't know realy when it will RROD but has a great software library.
2. A more expensive PS3 that you feel compelled to buy because it's Sony and you don't want to wait until the remove even more features but really has a short list of compelling games
3. A graphically underpowered Wii that is great fun for the casuals.

What a fine selection we have!

And Bungie isn't owned by Microsoft. As for doing homework, you need to cite your sources for homework, and Workman doesn't. And it's old. They have since re-re-reconfirmed PS3 exclusivity.

I'd believe that MGS4:Subst-whatever would come out on 360, maybe, considering it didn't get MGS3:Subsistance but did get MGS2:Substance. Just this time there'd be a lot more shit to put up with over it. Or it might just be a shitty port like the 360 got last time.

I'm not sure this Halo comparison is fair as Microsoft still owns the 'Halo' intellectual property, not Bungie.

Boo! to hear it got delayed again but as long as the game is good the wait will be worth it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they keep delaying it so that they release the game after final fantasy 13 since that game will sell a ton of ps3's in japan and a decent amount here. Then they may be able to recoup their costs without having to port the game.

They can't afford to wait that long. The next final fantasy is taking forever to come out. We won't see that thing untill 2009.

The delay is most likeley due to Kojima being a perfectionist.

The 360 will probably never get "Metal Gear Solid 4:Guns of the Patriots" but it could get "Metal Gear Solid 4:Strange one Word Subtitle" 6 months to a year later. DMC4 was obvious since capcom had a good 360 engine already but unless you want a DDR or Bomberman version of MGS Konami has to build a 360 engine from scratch.
