Every so often, a tower defense title is able to pull me in, utterly disrupting my ability to function as a productive member of society. One of the more recent games to claim that victory was Defender's Quest, which not nearly enough of you played.

It has since received a substantial amount of new content, including a new game+ mode, support for mods, additional maps and sidequests, and perhaps best of all, upgraded graphics. I had intended to write up some thoughts on this stuff for a while now, but I haven't yet been able to find the time to even play the new-and-improved Defender's Quest, unfortunately.

Why even bring it up? Because the game is coming to Steam, Desura, Impulse, GamersGate, and GOG.com on October 30, 2012. Some of you aren't always so into buying independent releases outside of the ones found on these platforms, which I totally get. Know that this is one to keep an eye on -- especially with all of the free updates that followed our original review.

Defender's Quest HD coming as free update

Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten is one my favorite tower defense games, right up there with Immortal Defense, but I haven't gone back to play it again. That'll have to change soon -- there's an HD re-release with ne...more

Long tail: How Defender's Quest is doing better than ever

Review: Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten

Certain genres more than others can be forgiven when skimping on narrative. I would argue that tower defense games can readily get away this without receiving many complaints, since the act of massacring enemy troops tends to...more

Tower defense meets RPG in ambitious Defender's Quest

Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten feels like it was designed by people who really understand what makes the tower-defense genre enjoyable, and how it can be improved. Elements normally found in role-playing games are...more

Get tready to learn about Hearts of Iron IV's tanks

I like it when a company modifies their logo to fit with the theme of whatever it's attached to. It's a stupid thing to like and here it's just an old timey World War II filter, but I like it nonetheless (see: SEGA matching ...more

Bladestorm: Nightmare is a historical game with evil Joan of Arc and dragons

I didn't play 2007's Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War, but I might play Bladestorm: Nightmare, an expanded version of the real-time tactics game for PS3, PS4, and Xbox One. The core remains the same -- you still side with ...more
