Dee Jay and T. Hawk could be coming to Street Fighter IV photo

Curious users probing the Street Fighter IV benchmark tool’s files have found something mysterious: announcer audio files for T. Hawk and Dee Jay. These two fighters have been long-rumored to hit Street Fighter IV as downloadable content. But they may have also been included in early development, thus what people are finding now could be nothing more than stray data.

In late May, Capcom’s Seth Killian tried to silence the character DLC rumblings. “No plans for additional DLC right now,” Killian said. “We want the core to be a completely functional package, and character DLC could split the user-base.”

His word choice is particularly interesting when you consider the PC version of Street Fighter IV as a unique release. If these guys were included in the retail package, there’s no user-base splitting: Dee Jay and T.Hawk would simply be two additional characters.

We’ve asked Capcom about this and we’ll definitely let you know when we get a response to our questions. While we wait, let’s discuss how dumb T.Hawk is. Seriously. He's an adult who pretends to attack like an eagle (or whatever).

Nice to see they're adding more useless characters when they could be implementing oh, I don't know, Makoto or Elena.

Well everybody knows that there will be a Street Fighter IV Championship Edition or Second Strike or something, so most likely those characters will appear in that.

Out of everyone to add to this game why two of the worst characters in SF history? Why not Ibuki, Makoto or Adon?

Honestly, I just want Dee Jay just because I loved his maraca winning dance from Super Street Fighter something or other II, and I want to see how they make it look in SFIV. T. Hawk is much too lame for my tastes.

T. Hawk was hilarious in SF2. his entire game revolved around having one hell of a hard time getting in on opponents and then when he got in rape the sh*t out of them with little his prey could do.

and let's not begin talking about Zangief... good times, good times.

I really don't care anymore if they get in SF4 or not. I've kinda drifted away from it and started playing SSF2THDR again with the five other people on Xbox Live that do as well. :P

I don't understand all the T Hawk and Dee Jay hatred. Maybe it's my nostalgia talking but I've liked both of them ever since I was a kid and Turbo came out (or whatever game they debuted in). Seriously though, adding these two as DLC would only divide the user base if Capcom charges for it. Just sayin...

“We want the core to be a completely functional package, and character DLC could split the user-base.”

It would create a split online of people who downloaded the new characters and those who didn't, like the divide in Halo 3 of people who have the new maps and those that don't... unless it was a free download (and I would imagine Capcom hinks they need to charge for them) I think ultimately it doesn't matter but I can see where he's coming from if this is his reasoning.

I'm Kind of with Jack Maverick. DeeJay is loved by many and deserves to join the roster.

And Yeah, T.Hawk needs a major rebalancing/reworking to get my approval. Also, as a Mexican he annoys me so much. But then, El Fuerte is just as retarded.

I guess Capcom of Japan stereotypes Mexicans just as horribly as any other nationality in the game...

@de bloo

All characters in SF are stylised stereotypes. But then show me an accurate stereotype that makes a fun characters. Difficult, isn't it?

Yeah, T Hawk is awful, but Dee Jay deserves a chance. The shame is that Capcom will more than likely do both of them, because then they have the SSF2T characters all out there. If they are downloaded in a pack, that would suck, but individually would be awesome, and give Capcom a better idea of what we like.

I'd still like to see some forgotten characters like Retsu, Lee, Joe or Geki, redesigned and return from the original SF. They'd be like new characters to us, and the rest of the SF cast, have already appeared in other SF games.

Is it more racist to add in the characters or to assume any non-white character is a token?

Ahh it's Capcom. Definately the former.

@amx70s

Being from New Mexico would make more sense, but his stage is in "Mexico", complete with Aztecs and burros and dumb looking American tourists. I'm with de BLOO...Capcom has no clue what Mexicans actually are.

With THAT being said....,I want my pink T Hawk.

I thought Capcom said long before release that T. Hawk and Dee Jay were considered but were dropped for some reason (balance issues?). Wouldn't surprise me if what people have found are just leftovers like Brad said.

And if they do add new characters, those two would not be my first choice. Hopefully they were dropped specially because fan demand just wasn't there, and they'll go for completely different characters. Like Novakaine said, bring on Elena or Makoto.

First of all, Deejay and T. Hawk are fantastic characters. I wrote a long ass post here: http://www.destructoid.com/no-character-dlc-planned-for-street-fighter-iv-133511.phtml

Second of all, I also don't care about SFIV. It's more of a Dream Game than an actual sequel which I don't need since I didn't stop playing SF after II/Alpha. Still, it disappoints me when anybody doesn't hear "new characters" and doesn't think actual new characters. SFIV did not destroy your copies of the Alpha Anthology or Anniversary Collection.

Listen guys, I understand that IV is the game that is being played right now and you want to use an old favorite in it. But you are cheating yourself out of new favorites by not telling Capcom you want new characters. Capcom is very receptive right now to fan needs and all they hear is NEEDS MOAR GUY/DUDLEY/Ect. Request like that will hurt the franchise in the long run.

Come one guys. I love the II, Alpha, III, and even EX characters too. But it would be better for the franchise and for us if we let the franchise look to the future rather than continuity recreate the past.

Who has two thumbs and takes SF too seriously? This Guy!

@s0lesurviv0r: No, you are most defintely not.

Back on topic, though: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NO NO NO NO! I really don't want to see those two in SF IV, period. Not a fan of either one, especially when people spam, the fuck out of T. Hawk. That's just broken.

NihonTiger90: You're joking, right? T. Hawk is one of the lowest tier characters in the game. It's an absolute marvel to see someone master him (I've been trying but I still can't consistently get in or pull of his Mexican Typhoon). He has been improved in HD Remix but the old problems are still there (and would likely be in IV simply because that's just how the character is designed).

I know you're a Cammy Player so I assume your trouble is the damage he does on her from a Typhoon (and overall). You're gonna have to deal with it man. At least you can consistently beat out a Hawk Dive with a Thrust Kick.

I'm with Firestorm in that this is just left over voice clips being found in a demo and being blown out of proportion. It's not like they do voice-over recording when all the characters are finalized. It's more likely that when Capcom was doing the announcer voice recordings, they still had DJ and Hawk in the cards for SFIV, and didn't bother to remove those recordings from once they realized they wouldn't be able to complete those characters in time for the February release.
