Debut teaser for Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time photo

And before we start, yes, it looks like the “Future” part of the title is back (silly, press release).

On Friday night’s episode of GameTrailers TV, the WORLD EXCLUSIVE teaser for this fall’s recently announced Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time had its debut. (I type “WORLD EXCLUSIVE” in all caps because wait until you get a load of how dramatic the graphic and accompanying sound effects are.)

First impressions? Awesome … although not much is shown at all. Insomniac has a near flawless record with its Ratchet & Clank games, though, so I am not worried about A Crack in Time’s quality in the slightest.

I have do have one small hope, however: Out of all videogames that have featured time travel, the infinitely clever Ratchet & Clank series has the potential to use it in some of the most creative and cool ways ever seen. Let’s hope A Crack in Time doesn’t just settle for the basic “each level is just a different time period” format. I want some crazy Back to the Future – Part II oh-my-gosh-don’t-interact-with-your-past-self-or-the-universe-will-implode kind of scenario! If anyone can do it, you can Insomniac.

Hit the jump for the video and let us know what you think. Are you pleasantly teased, or are you holding out until you see some actual (assumedly stellar) gameplay?

I'm sure the game will be good, just like all of the Ratchet games. Personally, I got a little chill when I saw the lombax at the end. Will Ratchet finally find out about his origins?

I am a little worried about that character in the trailer, either he will be a genius part of the story, og unite all the classic cliches, either he will be Ratchet's father, uncle, friend of his parents, or himself from the future.
Come on Insomniac! Surprise me!

(and mentioning time-paradox-stories ala "don't-do-that-or-else-universe-implodes", I think the first Futurama movie pulled that of quite good, if Insomniac can top that, I am pleased. Or maybe I am the only one who enjoyed that movie..)

I blame the movie industry for the lack of content in that trailer.

I thought they were interfering with their future selves in Part II and their past in Back to the Future.

Cool trailer, with this and Jak 4 in the works, my platforming needs seem to be covered very nicely. :)

Chad, the "Future" part didn't go anywhere. In Europe, it was never there in the first place. That press release you link to came from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, and in Europe, the first PS3 R&C game was called Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, not Ratchet & Clank Future: etc. I'm sure the new game will be called Ratchet & Clank Future over here, Ratchet & Clank over there, and who know what it will be called in Japan (where the first game was called simply Ratchet & Clank Future, with no subtitle.)

@gladstone,
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the info! The press release is no longer "silly." :) :)

@Robbo_the_hood,
Future selves and past selves. Remember the part where Marty goes back to the high school dance and crawls over his past self in the stage catwalk? :)

Time control? Go Blinx, get yo time crystals!
The only game which probably utilizes the best time travel mechanics is probably Achron the rts game. I can't wait to try the game out.

Sweet! But still not available for pre-order from Amazon yet. Looks awesome and if it's as good as TOD it will be awesome! QFB was good but short. I hope the RYNO in this is as good as in TOD. In some R&C games the RYNO was lame, but it was awesome in TOD! Good work Insomniac!

@Chad, I never thought of the running into past selves part of it....that would be a neat twist too. Dangerous though, we all know what happened in Time Cop when you run into past versions of yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D01mdGW9-Zg YUCK!

Day one purchase for me just like every other R&C game....can't wait!!!
