It's not trolling. It's part of EVE. We wouldn't play if we couldn't blow everything up, and part of the fun is never knowing if you'll be the one blown up.

Massive kudos to the EVE community for this, really an example of how videogames really connect us socially.
What exactly do you mean with "extremist mob", though? Isn't the typical leftard rhetoric that extremists are only a very small minority? If that is the case, then that "minority" seems to have grown considerably all over some areas which are under the influence of a certain political ideology...

Yeah, there was a blog on this earlier in the c-blogs... so heartwarming to see the positive side of gaming - the sense of community and the charitable nature of donating money to his wife and children.

Funny enough, my mom said "Hey, the one guy that died was a gamer, his name was 'Vile Rat'; did you know him?" I was like "...yes, I have weekly gatherings with every gamer; we all get together and chat to keep up on the times."
And then I see the articles and I'm like oh shit, mind-blown.
Glad to see the Goonswarm Send-Off; I know he'd be the first in line to do the same for any of his fallen friends aswell.
As for why Goonswarm would do a tribute to him in such a way; well it's EVE, and they're Goonswarm. While a massive fleet of ships silently crawling across the expanse of EVE and gathering numbers as it went would be cool; a massive fleet of ships killing everything and everyone and gaining size as it crawls across EVE is even better.
I hope they cut a nice swath and kill server nodes in their travels; now THAT would be a hell of a send-off.

I remember reading long time ago that when he was in Irak he could play only a few hours a week and EVE was a way to escape.

I'm not getting into politics but it was a coordinated attack by a specific group that spun into a riot. When tensions are high in any area it doesn't take much to push people into a mob mentality whether they're storming the football field because their favorite team lost or they're storming an embassy because of a horribly offensive film being the tipping point of years of foreign involvement in their country.

Not to say people aren't relatively safe across the pond in Yankland, but I agree with Ronin4life; as an Irishman I feel a lot safer in my insignificant and harmless country than I'd be in the US to be honest folks.

It's funny, but it's so easy to give EVE flak for its corporation-style gameplay, but it's amazing to see how that can make it such a tight-knit community. This is a very nice gesture. :)

That was cool of the EVE community to do. As a guy who travels I feel like I have a much higher risk of getting gunned down in my home town in the USA than I do in most foreign countries I've visited.
The only safe place is New Zealand. Everyone else either hates each other, is third world, has terrorist attacks, or is Australia. Move to New Zealand!
