Dear THQ: We covet your Darksiders cloth map photo

I've been itching to play THQ's Darksiders: Wrath of War for an incredibly long time now. In fact, I was supposed to be previewing the thing in LA several months ago before the event was postponed and never re-booked. Then I find out that MTV Multiplayer not only got to play it, but also got its talons on a proper nerdy cloth map.

The inclusion of a cloth map will jerk the nostalgic collar of many an Ultima fan, and is in keeping with the old school vibe that Darksiders is hoping to radiate. The game is being described as "Zelda for grown-ups" by THQ's marketing folk, and so far I've seen nothing about the game that doesn't appeal to me. The only thing I'm hacked off about is the fact that I don't have a cloth map.

Since whining about not getting free stuff on the Destructoid frontpage has worked in the past, I am fully expecting to having a piece of clot with nonsensical crap scrawled over it in my mailbox tomorrow. If not, I will firebomb THQ's office. I know where it is, and I make good on my promises if I've had too much whisky.

Which I shall.

Um, not having an NES, I never got maps with the select few games that had them back in the day. The closest thing I ever had were paper maps with the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy on Xbox. So, uh, if they were to give this out with the game, I would buy it in an instant, just because I love the idea of getting a cloth map for another world.

Man, I remember getting those things. I hated them. I think I even wrote an article on how most "collector's edition" pack-ins were garbage, and the burlap map was one of my least favorite things to ever get as a "bonus".

How many people do you know that played Baldur's Gate 2? That game came with a cloth map. Despite how popular that game was, you may know 1 person who still thinks that map was worth keeping around.

For me, personally, I'd much rather have a nice art book, a soundtrack, or pretty much anything besides that map, a folded up mini-poster, a "Making Of..." DVD, or a pack of trading cards for the game's soon-to-be-defunct CCG.

Very Ultima-ish. Don't forget the Lunar:SSC cloth map!

The only game I have with a cloth map is neverwinter nights. Too bad I never made it out of the main city to ever put it to use.

This looks a lot better than my Twilight Princess cloth map.

Zelda for grown-ups huh? An M rating perhaps? Would that be too much? Do want anyway.
