Deadly Premonition special edition, sequel and prequel!? photo

Deadly Premonition directory SWERY 65 has revealed that he has plans for a sequel and prequel, as well as a special edition re-release of the original cult comedy-horror.

The special edition would feature enhanced graphics, answering criticism that the original looked fairly hideous. As for the brand new games, the eccentric developer did not confirm that they were in development right now, but he certainly seems like he's got it all mapped out.

He's also confirmed that Western publishers are very interested in an all-new IP that he's working on, so it would appear that SWERY is becoming quite popular on his side of the industry. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Now excuse me while I dance a merry jig in celebration. More Agent York is important to this industry!

"The special edition would feature enhanced graphics, answering criticism that the original looked fairly hideous."

Don't change SWERY, we liked it just the way it was...maybe change the driving mechanics.

Hey, I JUST started playing this!

But then I stopped after about an hour to answer the call of the Battlefield. I'll get back to it some day, I promise!

This was snagged when all my games got stolen a while back, this special edition will give me a good excuse to re-buy and finish it finally. I will pee into skulls with delight if there are prequels and sequels!

The crappy graphics were part of the charm of the original, don't take that away.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing some high definition FK in my coffee.

Hell, I'd buy it again, if this ever comes about; it sounds very up in the air, though. Glad he's got some interest for his new stuff too. Yeah, obviously, I'm a fan. He's becoming everything that Suda 51 used to be (and now walking away from), but with a more accessible twist.

Good luck to the guy, I say. We need more devs like him. They were abundant in the PS2-era, but sorely lacking in this generation.

I'm sorry to be sour, but a PS3 port (I know it was released on Japan) or fake. Sorry, I'm interested in playing this, but I'm not willing to shell +$200 for a 360 :(

I hope the special edition finds its way to the PS3. The cost of importing it is kind of ridiculous

Just make this game $20 at retail and I'll try it. As long as it has a good director and appeals to my interests, how can I pass up $20 gaming.

Sold, sold and sold. Although I don't see the reason for changing the graphics, but I'm not the kind of person that cares about them at all.

The prequel could focus on York working with Zach on the FBI while the sequel could have York team up with deputy Willie.

to all people blabbing about ps3/pc release - it's exclusive, just buy 360 there are loads of awesome exclusive titles.
i love how all those guys here when basically any game is released exclusively on 360 they talk how it should be multiplatform yet when there are talk about ps3 exclusive that's actually good(which is rare) they shout "get ps3 to play it".

Oh come on guys. The graphics are shit and not all that charming. I loved the game and would not complain if they spruced them up a bit. I'd be fine with just better controls and car handeling though.

Interested in news of the Vita port he wanted to do. Didn't Microsoft pay for exclusivity for the game?

sofix88 - How can you not get the hypocrisy of your post, you sound like the fanboys you hate the most. So says Mr. Stewart.

There's a PS3 version already anyway. I don't know if it's got English language, but anyone so inclined could import the game easily since PS3 is region-free.

The graphics are awesome. Don't touch 'em. The only thing I would majorly overhaul is the map system, because it is completely fucked.

Ugh, as a huge fan of Twin Peaks and quirky, terrible games, I really, really, really, really hated Deadly Premonition. Don't try and tell me that I "didn't get it", because I did. I got it. I understand. However, just because I understand does not mean I should forgive the MOUNTAIN of problems with this game.

I have seen so many people who once loved this game now change their minds once they realized it isn't really cult material. It is just an abysmal game with abysmal graphics, gameplay, sound design, story, voice acting, pacing, and controls. These things added together do not equal a memorable game. They equal garbage.

Just because something is quirky and isn't afraid to be different does not mean it deserves cult status. Some things are just garbage and should be treated as such.

Goddammit. I wish I knew this a couple weeks ago when I bought it for the first time. :P

Seriously, the graphics can use a touch up, but what they need to work on are the mechanics. Aiming (add a sensitivity option), character movement (I thought walking in circles was just a Heavy Rain thing), and driving (HAHAHAHAHA! FUCK ME!) all need to undergo some major surgery. Pretty much everything except the characters, story, and dialog can use a long hot bath in a tub of awesome.

There is a PS3 version of Troll 2...ah, I mean Deadly Premonition already. It's completely in English. In fact, the only difference is that the PS3 version is called "Red Seeds Profile" and it costs as much to import it as it does to feed Jim Sterling in a single meal.

The graphics being touched up is nice, but even more important would be the driving, the map, slightly better menus. Still. Good DAY.

I'll still disagree with the focus of the review Jim, being on the comedic points to the game. Deadly Premonition almost made me tear up by its conclusion; a reaction I don't think I'd had from a game's world since Snake Eater. For a game on a tight budget its amazing how well crafted the characters and the plot are. Not a single detail was left unanswered.

Still, I'd knock it down to a 9 if only for those upside-down screaming witch things that shoot black smoke out their vagina.

Something doesn't achieve cult status because of popularity or overall quality. It earns its place because enough people appreciate it for what it is despite its lack of mass appeal. The fact that you think it sucks and so many others think it's pure fucking gold can only serve as proof that Deadly Premonition is a cult game.

Now tell all those people who stopped liking it just because it wasn't cult material to stop being such fucking hipsters.
