Dead to Rights Retribution assets show city and a bit of dog photo

Volatile Games (Reservoir Dogs) and Bandai Namco want you to forget about all those other Dead to Rights games. Dead to Rights Retribution is a reimagining, a new look for new current generation systems. We’ve had our hands on it before, and yeah, it’s different.

This afternoon Bandai Namco pushed the point again by releasing some assets for Retribution. Below in the gallery you’ll find some hip screenshots of the protagonist and his dog, as well as a decent amount of concept art for the city (Grant City) featured in the game. After the jump, you can watch a bit of a fly by of the city. It’s void of action, but it should give you a taste of what Volatile is trying to achieve in terms of atmosphere. (Hint: dark and gloomy.)

Dark and Gloomy? In a video game? It'll never work!

Is it me or does the main character look incredibly, idiotically chunky? He just looks stupid - and not GoW grudgingly cool chunky stupid, but whacked out Saturday morning cartoon chunky stupid.

...and I have only now realised that instead of formulating that clumsily put together paragraph I could have simply said:

MAIN CHARACTER STEROID ABUSE - CONFIRMED!

I kind of agree with LsTr.... The environments and mechanics both seem to be following something tried and true, but their character design doesn't seem to ironed-out. They've still got time to tweak it before fourth quarter, so I hope to see some improvement from it.

Is this supposed to be open-world now or are they just pretending we care about the "city" outside the levels?
