Dead Space limited edition is very limited. Also, expensive photo

I really do think that a videogame franchise ought to have at least one highly popular release under its belt before it has the nerve to start offering special editions. Doing one for the first game in a series always looks presumptuous to me. Nevertheless, Dead Space is getting one ... and it'll set you back $150.

Unlike most "limited editions," one thing that can be said for this is that it is actually limited. Apparently, only 1,000 are being made, so it will be incredibly hard to get your hands on a copy. If you have both the cash and the luck to snag it though, here's what you get:

  • Special Ultra Limited Edition packaging
  • Dead Space Downfall Animated Movie (DVD)
  • Bonus content DVD
  • Exclusive lithograph art
  • 97-page Dead Space art book written and illustrated by the development team
  • 160-page Graphic novel
  • Ishimura crew patch

That's quite a haul. Since you're here, be sure to check out Hamza's hands-on with the game, as well as my first Jimpressions of EA's hot looking sci-fi title. Don't forget to check out the Destructoid review of Dead Space: Downfall either.

Clicking any of those links will not help you get your hands on the limited edition though.

Seems extremely light for the $150 price tag.

97-page!
160-page!
:O
I will find scans thank you very much, as hpv said this doesn't seem to warrant the price.

I'm usually the one that will go for limited editions but...

$150? That's WAY too pricey for what they're bundling.

Well, if the Americans don't want it you can always bring it to the UK.
Please?
I'll buy one. Maybe two.

@Beardo,

I'm hearing ya but over here the $150 price tag will most likely mean ATLEAST £100, which would be ridiculous. I bet the casing is great for this though....

What credit crunch?

So... this is how EA is trying to make back the money on Spore?

I'm assuming the fact it's not showing up in the EA Australasia store means that we ain't getting it. Which is a shame as it looks fucking sweet and the price.....? Well that's why I'm doing a shitload of overtime at work.

That seems like a low price, considering that only 1,000 are being made. Even if all of them sell, that's only $150K in revenue. I'm surprised that they're only making 1,000 -- unless they have really low expectations for how much it will sell.

I'd buy it if the movie was blu-ray instead of DVD

Only 1,000 made or not $150 is too high. I'd rather have 2 more games.

I preordered it (don't know how many ordered before me, but I did it around the time I saw the post on Kotaku), and damn if now I have to wonder where I can get the money for this.

Also, damn Hito for lowering my expectations on the movie - I wasn't aware there was a Blu-ray version, but now I wish they had included that version instead.

This makes me wonder what you get for winning the contest at noknownsurvivors.com. I'm ranked 43rd in the contest, I stand a reasonable chance of winning... something. <Mentak> Oooo-ooooooo-oooooh! </Mentak>

you could befriend any developer at EA, take him/her out to a cheap diner for $20 and then ask for the limited content for teh free as pay back.

works like a charm

Oh, yeah. For being in the top 100 I get a free copy of the game. No limited edition for me. But that's what the survival edition of Fallout 3 will make up for.. I need that alarm clock!

I'll wait 'till it goes for "cheap". If you look hard enough, you'll see Halo 3 LE's for $70.
