Dead Space Extraction for PSN/XBLA? Seems likely photo

This isn't the first time Dead Space Extraction has been mentioned as getting ported to Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network in some capacity -- here's the proof! Whereas last time it was a simple survey gauging interest in such an idea, this time we have something more bulletproof to work with.

A rendering engineer at EA Montreal listed the aforementioned port on his resume. Of course, since nothing has been officially announced quite yet -- E3, perhaps? -- the listing has since been taken down. Thankfully, our wonderful Google overlords have our back on this one.

Having unfortunately never gotten around to picking up the Wii version, I'd be inclined to get a digital, HD-ified port assuming it supported Natal and PlayStation Move. Otherwise, no thanks.

..Natal? No thanks. That doesn't even make sense.

If this is possible on PSN/XBLA it just goes to show that this should have never been a retail release in the first place. Nobody wanted this but as a cheap downloadable title Im sure it will get a decent amount of digital sales.

I think it would be an interesting launch title for the PS Move.

I have the Wii version already and it was a blast. My only real complaint was that the game was over before I wanted it to be. So I played through it again, and then the extras. It's also nice for an afternoon of multiplayer with a friend.

I really like the work that EA has been doing lately so hopefully this will do well for them.

In before the fanboys crying that it should have stayed on the PS3 and 360. Guess EA has to recoup the loss they took on that game. Of course, that doesn't mean it was a good game...

Awesome... hopefully this means I can pick up the wii version for less than ten bucks. I can't believe EA sold this initially as a 50 dollar retail game. Then months later as a 15 dollar throw a way digital title. Perhaps this is why nobody bought the game to begin with EA? Could it be we were expecting you to drop the price,up the visuals and bring some extra content?

Sounds too plausible to me.....nope. It has to be the lack of "core" on the wii right ea?

Natal? So you'd get to saw your arm off with your hand? Could be the best of the terrible ideas I've heard for Natal. Move support would be great though, assuming that playing Deadspace: Extraction is an interest of yours, I guess.

I'd definitely think about checking it out if it was cheap and didn't require turning on my Wii.

Once again, I still don't see how this could work with Natal (or any other 360 controller for that matter). Move is a good choice for it, though.

Cadtalfryn pretty much said everything else I was gonna say.

I picked this up for $20 brand new and couldn't be happier with the purchase, I really wonder how this will fly on Natal though....

Too bad putting it on XBLA/PSN won't make it a fun game.

Then again, I think it was my own fault for having my hopes too high...

Yea I agree with everyone here. Move seems a logical port. Natal just seems like you wanted to plug the ms motion controls in there. I would wager it uses thumb sticks on 360 and possibly ps3. Move support wouldn't be a garauntee.

This game was little more than the usual on-rail shooter with known IP coat of paint IMO, still, HD fanboys defended it as yet another "great game that flopped due to the Wii", now that it's gonna make it's way to the HD twins i can see one of two things happening:

- It will tank much like it did on the Wii.
- It will sell mildly well, prompting the aforementioned HD fanboys to claim that they were right while ignoring the fact that the price difference (50$ for Wii owners, 15$ most likely for XBLA/PSN) probably played a big part in that.

Says a lot about the comtempt EA must hold Wii players in that they moaned when no-one bought the game at full-price and used it as proof that no-one wants to buy 'hardcore' games for Nintendo's console, yet don't expect MS and Sony to pay more than $15 and treat it as a downloadable extra to the main series. It's a very good game, but very short and they'll have to spruce it up quite a bit to meet the graphical expectations of fans on the HD consoles.

Surprisingly enough, this game actually got me more interested in the DS universe and characters. In the original game I always found Issac's silence kinda creepy; like when he just stands watching from the shadows, without a word of warning or disbelief, as the team he landed with gets slaughtered by unimaginable horrors.

But yeah, I wouldn't be too excited if you had to use a pad for this.

While I would like to have the hd graphics on my 360 I think id rather play with crap graphics and wii controls.

thats because wii owners wanted a TPS or even an FPS not a Rail shooter. Rail shooters are cool and all but it really isn't core game that the hard core wii owners wanted and EA bent to make a game that would be "better suited" to the wii system.

some people do not understand that "Casual gammers = hard core gammers" all of the people that I know that play video games casually play Halo, COD, Army of Two, Gears of War, Resistance, and many other games.

It is not because those games are "Hard Core" that people like them, It is because they all have great controls, very few glitches, easy to pick up and play, hard to master, simple yet very effective menu system, well thought out multiplayer, and concepts that may blow you mind.

And when you compare that to Super mario Brothers on the Nintendo Entertainment System ( or any good game on that system ) you would see that all those details are just the same.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "HARD CORE" IT WAS A TERM MADE BY SEGA TO MAKE NINTENDO LOOK LAME

You can make a game on the wii that looks "photo realistic" that completely blows the competitors away graphically with "amazing" voice acting , but if that games controls, concept, and gameplay sucks or does not live up to what it was meant to be no one will buy that game as such to Dead Space Extraction.

I would have been much happier with a HL2 port

Lot of hate here for something that was a reasonably lengthy rail shooter with a decent plot, more likeable character than the original Dead Space, plenty of weapons, excellent graphics (for the wii). A port though is a terrible idea - it NEEDS a wiimote minimum (or a lightgun) to be functional - does the 360 even have a lightgun? On the other hand PS3 owners who picked up Time Crisis 4 will probably invest.
RenegadePanda's Avatar - Comment posted on 06/04/2010 01:48

Natal and Move will both suck for rail shooters. Natal has no 'gun' and Move just kills the experience. Pointing the remote at the screen is about as stupid an idea as Natal support. That's why there are hundreds of gun shells for the Wii, no one wants to play a lightgun shooter without the lightgun. Not to mention some of them would just be downright annoying to play without one.

And are we all forgetting the PS3 has a legit lightgun? Why in the hell would you use Move when you could snag a Guncon 3 online for probably about 10 or 15 bucks? If this doesn't support the GC3 on PS3, I'm not buying it. And unfortunately, 360 doesn't have anything that would make this even remotely playable, so no sale there either.

Hate to say it, but the Wii is where this game belongs, and where it needs to stay.

Good to see this game getting to more people, though it would have been nice if the Wii version cost at retail what a PSN/XBLA game costs.

I've a friend who played so far through the 360 version, enjoyed its atmosphere and graphics, but ultimately got a bit bored and frustrated with it. He's now got himself a Wii and began playing DS:E. He's been saying how he's been enjoying it a lot more, because of the pacing.

Yeah, I have to agree with most here. I don't see why natal was even mentioned except to keep the fanboys happy. Move makes sense though. But c'mon dtoid, when did we start making dumb suggestions just to appease the fanboys?

if EA only thinks this game is worth $15-$20, why were Wii owners expected to think it was worth $50?

also, LOL @ everyone saying this would "suck on Natal" when you know next to nothing about it. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. How could anyone say until we really know more about it? I mean who's to say that Natal can't work with accessories like lightguns? You don't know yet.

If Natal was supposed to work with accessories, they would have shown accessories already. I'm not going to point my finger at the screen to shoot aliens.
