No, I'm being pessimistic because there is nothing about this situation at the moment that gives me ANY reason to be the least big hopeful about this working.
I just hope they don't screw up the balancing of the single player game to nudge the player into co-op. Hell, I want the ability to remove co-op from the title screen, via the options menu. I want the ability to bar it from my sight, as seeing it each time the game turns on will make me die inside, just a little bit.
The good news is that just adding a second playable character doesn't eat up too many resources, so it probably won't take away a lot of development budget/time away from the single player campaign. Personally this seems like a much better compromise then having EA waste a bunch of resources on a competetive multiplayer mode that no one will play.
That said, again, this better be 100 percent completely fucking optional. If I have another AI controlled sheva following me around and dieing on me, or if there are missions where you have to have a player 2 to complete, then fuck EA and fuck Visceral. Hopefully that won't be the case
They had a chance to make an actual horror game, but now it's sounding more like just another bland third person shooter. Co-Op ruins horror games as much as giving you tons of weapons does. Defiantly skipping this seeing as though I've already played the same game twice before.
Multiplayer was crap and tacked on, but I still think my 59.99 purchase was justified just for the 3 runs of Single player I had. With Co-op, oh the places you will go with my best buddy.
Also, on the consoles get tons of Co-op games, PC games get shafted hard most the time, and Dead Space 2 never even got the horde mode put into the PC version.
Also, I'm hoping they make this one less pitch fucking black then 2. I'd have liked to play through that game, but my lack of a HD tv ballsed all over their assumption that I would have one, and even the brightest contrast setting was so dark it rendered parts of the game horrible to play.
Sorry, but the wrk has to come from somewhere. "More features" usually means less work on the others. You're not getting extra stuff, you're just sacrificing the important stuff to get it.
Wouldn't it have been great if Bioware had been working on a good ending for ME3 instead of having to shove that shitty multiplayer into their work schedule?
...Please don't do this. I don't care about the co-op. Just don't fuck up my Plasma Cutter. Don't twist this game into a cover shooter. This is the last quality action/horror series we've seen in a while. We don't got much else else. I'm begging you: Don't fuck up Dead Space.
Please.
;__;
I put the Plasma Cutter in horizontal mode and left it that way forever. There isn't any need for anything other than horizontal. Heck... there isn't any need for any other gun period. If they put the Plasma Cutter in horizontal mode by default this will actually be a huge buff for it.
I doubt Visceral will inadvertantly nerf the gun into uselessness, but I think this is their way of balancing the guns so people actually bother to use the other weapons. They realize more than anyone else how iconic the Plasma Cutter is to the series.
The co-op announcement concerns me however. If it's like RE5 with forced co-op, I can't see it being a positive addition for the series. As long as it's COMPLETELY optional, I'm totally okay with it.
RE5 was a lot of fun when played with a live partner, but it hardly evoked any feelings of horror from me... and this series has scared the beejezus out of me. The FIRST scene in DS2 was pant-shitting panic. I'd hate to lose moments like that. It's hard to immerse yourself into a game when your buddy is yammering in your ear on the headset.
Dead Space is my favourite new IP of this generation, just barely edging out Mass Effect. I have little hope left for EA, but I have faith in Visceral. I can't imagine them letting their baby get completely raped by the corporate machine.
Couldn't agree more. I said the exact same thing when they started bitching about the God of War MP.
C'mon girls, let's see how it plays first, hmm??
"The Plasma Cutter no longer switches between horizontal and vertical fire, but between regular fire and a pushback blast."
is a fucking no-no. The Plasma Cutter's two fire modes are what makes it the best weapon in the game!
Did competitive multiplayer ruin Dead Space 2? No, it was the best game of 2011.
Did co-op multiplayer ruin Portal 2? No, it was the second best game of 2011.
Visceral is a good studio and they haven't done wrong by us yet. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt!
...
Except for that Plasma Cutter thing. Fuck that noise.
:)
The plasma cutter thing is sad indeed best gun in the game ;_;
I was getting at them focusing more on co-op than single player but you right *sniff* I'm sorry Viscy, I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry that I made you cry, I didn't want to hurt you I'm just a jealous guy.
Like people said so long as it's seperate from single player I'm down. I'd even hope it were two different characters so they could be their own seperate storylines.
Now that other stuff about the plasma cutter and human enemies makes me :( If anything, they should be overhauling the monsters to require more intense, precise plasma cuts to kill without turning them into a running,screaming murder machine. And human enemies, seriously? That's what I play EVERYTHING else for, not Dead Space!
The co-op is the only thing I can see providing anything good to this game, but only if it is completely and utterly optional. Leave the focus on the single-player campaign, and DO NOT make the campaign revolve around multi-player. This severely detracted from RE5 and ruined ME3. Please, let's not ruin this series too.
Oh wait, it's EA.
We're fucked.
What they did to the weapons upsets me more than the co-op. Seriously wtf. Human enemies? Crouching? This isn't Dead Space anymore, this is looking like Gears of War now... Seriously, WHAT THE HELL?! This is some shit.
And it might shift to NO BUY. But since it wouldn't generate as much money, it would be like "Pirates! Pirates, everywhere!
