Dead Space 2 won't be coming to PC photo

As bold as day, Electronic Arts has stated that Dead Space 2 will not be coming to PC. A version for computers was conspicuous in its absence when EA listed its releases for 2011, and when asked about the situation, EA was forthcoming in its declaration that Dead Space 2 would be a console-only affair.

The publisher has been less clear as to why it is denying the PC crowd. No reasons have been given for Dead Space 2's console-only status. All that's been said is that "As of right now, a PC SKU is not in the plan." Until that changes, fans of computer gaming are being left out in the cold.

With the original Dead Space not selling as well as EA wanted, you'd think the publisher would be doing all it could to push the sequel on as many formats as possible. Apparently not. I guess either the sales figures were so bad on the PC that the sequel just isn't worth it, or EA simply doesn't rate the PC market anymore. Either way, it looks like you guys are boned if you were hoping to play Dead Space 2 on anything other than a PS3 or 360.

This is completely ridiculous. I will buy a computer copy of the original right now if this would only convince them to make a PC version.

EA, are you really going to make more money buy narrowing your audience? Fail hard, EA. You fail hard now.

wow, grammar fail on my part.

@x1251

that's a great point. The whole "this is now an action game" turn for the series makes absolutely no sense, since the game is already way too similar to Resident Evil/Gears of War as it is. So let EA turn shit profits on a shitty sequel...

I don't understand how the original didn't sell. Thanks to that, EA decided to change the sequel by taking out what made the first one great.

So now that the game won't be nearly as good, maybe it will sell better.

That makes sense, right?

I'm really loving all the "HUR HUR HUR, Dead Space 2 is going to be an action game now, REPENT THE END IS NIGH" (To quote a popular Batarian).

Mass Effect 2 inside joke aside, how can you pass judgment on something you have neither played nor seen gameplay for? Making wild assumptions just makes you look like a huge dickhead and makes me want to alleviate your gene pool with industrial strength bleach. Guess what guys? If you don't like the way Dead Space 2 is going, then don't FUCKING BUY IT!! What a novel idea.

I personally like what EA is doing with their franchises, they are taking chances by altering formulas and creating new IPs, but let me tell you that I would prefer that a hell of a lot more than what shit company ActiVison is doing, which is pumping out Guitar Hero and Call Of Duty sequels similar to the amount of times a Planned Parenthood mother goes to an abortion clinic.

So in closing. Stop complaining, you don't like it, no one is forcing you to buy the fucker.

Show me a console that can run Crysis 1 on high and I'll believe the PC 'cannot handle' action oriented gameplay.

A good business decision, why spend money, time and resources making stuff that gets stolen by PC pirates?

Best is to make games for PS3 (pirateproof) and Xbox (the xbox live banning helped and games are easy presents from parents for christmas and birthdays)

the PC port of the first game was terrible. sure i may be a PC fanboy, but I won't deny that DS played better (and was actually playable) on consoles.

i don't intend to play DS2, though. They're taking out the horror, which was what made DS good. it's like taking the engine out of a car. so even if i didn't have an XBox, i wouldn't be losing out on anything.

BTW, Tewdee.. and everybody else on the fucking internet.. you all do realize you can use your 360 controllers or a million other types of gamepads (mine is basically a PS3 controller) with a PC, right? Why can't you imagine using a gamepad with this game, I wonder?

Anyway, I used a mouse and keyboard despite all that and it was perfectly fine.

Hmm, I'll deny it right now. PC port really was surprisingly not that bad. I've seen a lot worse. (Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4, for instance)

What problems did you have? I really did not have a single issue because of it being a port.

You can't be a PC gamer and be too thick to google an issue and find the abrudly easy solution. That's like being a gardener and refusing to go outside.

As for Dead Space 2, I bet this is miscommunication. I could be wrong, who knows, but EA ports most games that make sense for PC and Dead Space 2 makes sense for PC.

I think the problem is people like me.
Say, around 2007 I changed from consoles to the PC as the primary platform (I still have some consoles) just because I was tired of games like Dead Space. In fact, tired of this double action-sport that dominates.

I wonder. It should be other PC gamers that must have made the same choice. Which explains the low sale of games like Gears of War and Dead Space on PC.

I love it when publishers put out a completely half-assed PC port and then piracy gets blamed when it doesn't sell well.

I mean, I've probably never seen an official definition of the word, but I think I've picked up enough context clues over the years to figure it out. Maybe I've been wrong this whole time, but one informal slang word that has risen in popularity recently doesn't fit the definition of "meme" that I've had in my head.

I don't have much patience for shooters anymore, and those I do play are all on the PC because I have no patience for shooters on a console. I got started with games like Doom and Duke3d and trying to play those types of games with a gamepad just doesn't feel right to me. I played through dead space a few months back on steam and actually rather enjoyed it. I wasn't going to pick up the sequel on launch day, but was looking forward to picking it up eventually. This makes me sad.

dead space did not play well for me on PC. aiming was sluggish, and i had lots of CTDs. funnily enough i had no problems at all with DMC4 which not only played at a spectacular framerate (especially considering the excellent visuals and fast gameplay) but also offered game modes that weren't in the console version. pretty much the definition of a good port IMO, which is unsurprising considering that it's the console versions that are technically ported.

also, meh. not fussed about the DS sequel anyway as i didn't like the first one.

I wasn't going to grab it on the PC anyway, but that kinda sucks regardless. Usually the PC version of pretty much every game ever is superior. And even if you hate the keyboard and mouse, just plug a pad in -- I've got a game pad that's identical to a PS2 controller. Hell, I can use my PS3 controller with my PC.

As for people complaining about action over horror with this game, okay, we get it, action bad, horror good. This isn't the story about that, it's about platform release plans.

Well if you haven't by now, I don't see why spending 200 bucks is going to burn a huge hole in your wallet. Both Microsoft and Sony have priced their consoles down to the point where its not a huge investment anymore. Or maybe grab one on craigslist, people usually sell their consoles with like 10 games to boot.

Comment threads going all over the place. DS2 exec. producer Steve Papoutsis said (GI # 201) "what we discovered is people were... to scared playing DS." Knew without reading further that what I loved about DS was going to get nerfed. Being scared, tense, stressed is the magic of DS imo.
