Oh, and real survival horror? Like resident evil? So should the DLC have crap tank controls? Or are you wanting the shit action oriented story/not zombies that capcom brewed up in a poor attempt to appeal to western gamers? Or maybe it should be made more like silent hill. I'll go write a letter to EA and ask them to fire everyone at visceral and make a bunch of shitty iterations of a once great game.
If you think a game that consists of fending off necrotic abominations with MINING TOOLS in the claustrophobic confines of space doesn't constitute survival horror then you sir are a fool.
Yeah, announcing your DLC on the day your game is released: that is NOT how DLC works. It's as if this DLC was developed in tandem with the game proper, and they're pumping it out to make an easy fifteen bucks per gamer. DO NOT WANT.
You know what I fucking mean. He can manipulate objects and freeze him at will.
"Stasis and Kinesis modules" are the same exact thing as psychic powers. Oh no! A "module" is doing it but it has the exact same effect as telekinetic psychic powers in every medium ever! It is COMPLETELY different because it is SCIENCE!
Whatever you want to call them, it takes me out of the game a bit, because I'm playing a Jesus character in a game where I'm supposed to feel helpless.
I am glad to see that Viceral is bringing campaign DLC instead of just pushing out armor pack after armor pack.
My how quickly they attack one another...
Anyhoo off how this got on Jesus, As I'm not a fan of blah blah blah you know I probably will end up downloading it anyway if I love the game and I'll find that out when lazy UPS gets here and stops masturbating on my package
Nope. Dead Space is not survival horror. Neither is RE5. They're action horror.
Clocktower. That's survival horror. The original Alone in the Dark. The original Silent Hill - survival horror. Alan Wake - can be called survival horror. When you want to run away, and the fight or flight cerebral mechanism says "flight" more than fight, that's *survival* horror - hence the SURVIVAL part of the moniker. As a general rule, survival horror is dead, in favor of a more "exciting" shooter based approach to facilitate the "Gears/COD" generation.
In Dead Space, you're Jesus (not only figuratively in terms of the Marker, but gameplay wise). You have a multitude of weapons that demolish your enemies, a super space suit with at-will super powers and instant healing factor. Sorry I insulted your precious series (I'm assuming you have personal stock in Visceral Games): Dead Space is GREAT in it's own way - it's own action-ey non survival horror way.
"Survival" implies vulnerability, not empowerment, which is what you feel when you're walking around in a upgradeable tank suit with a huge arsenal of weapons capable of ripping the limbs off anything you encounter. I love Dead Space, but it's far closer to Gears of War than it is to Fatal Frame.
Your argument is still invalid. Kinesis and Stasis modules are useless is combat situations against more than one necromorph. Even if you slow one for ten seconds, you have more trying to kill you. And if you're playing on hard like you should be, it won't make a damn difference. Deadspace is just of a valid survival horror as any other out there if not more so. Give an example of one of these so called "true" survival horror or untie your panties and QQ.
Is it more fun? I'd say so. Is it more dire than those old games? No. It's more fun because you are more powerful. Like Jim said, it's why Prototype was more fun than inFamous for many people - you felt like a God.
enemies completely change the game. You stop being empowered. You DO have to flee some situations. If you haven't bothered do that yet then you have no grounds. The level of action and intensity of the game does bot make it an "action" game. They add to the frantic atmosphere that would come with a fucked up situation like dead space.
a narrative-based thriller. Your other examples have merit, but if you think dead space empowers you too much, up the difficulty, and your attitude will change. If your aren't playing the most challenging mode, you simply aren't playing.
B) Why is "Impossible" the "true" way of playing the game if you have to BEAT THE GAME to get it! The experience was intended to be played as an action shooter out of the box.
Stop splitting hairs because I mixed up the difficulty name. If you're too much of a baby to up the settings then stop talking. And impossible isn't the normal setting because if it was, people would whine and bItch about it. But lo and behold, it's not that way and here you are, being a whiny little kid. Your argument remains invalid. If you don't like it, stop crying about and go play something else.
Somewhere in there sports games exist but I try to keep those locked in the basement with those orphans I found at the food court.
I have to agree with Magnalon that Dead Space and RE 4/5 are Horror Action games, unless playing DS on "Impossible" as it's frigging HARD. Resident Evil 5 (which I liked less thatn Dead Space) had car chase segments. Car chase segments do not exist in Survial Horror games as far as I am concerned.
Magnalon is right, you internet tough guys are wrong, and Dead Space 2 is still awesome. Quite simple, really. Nothing to get your Underoos in a twist over, kids.
What are we arguing about again?
It is included with the PS3 Limited Edition (all of the PS3 retail releases) of "Dead Space 2" also the Collector's Edition
And if you don't want "Dead Space 2" you can also buy "Extraction" on the PSN, a demo will be available around 7:00 PM EST
Amazon has failed to add an update to the Info for the game. Every current retail copy of "Dead Space 2" for PS3 contains "Extraction." That includes standard (limited) editions, and collector's editions.
They are called "Limited" editions only because once the game becomes a Greatest Hits, "Extraction" will not be included and you will have to purchase the game seperately.
For now, every retail PS3 copy of "Dead Space 2" contains "Extraction," and it is compatible with Dualshock or Move. (2 dualshocks, or 2 move controllers)
