Dead Space 2's most-requested feature was multiplayer photo

Lately, Electronic Arts has been pretty candid about wanting to make its games online enabled in some capacity going forward. There seems to be some vocal resistance to this notion, but in the case of Dead Space 2, apparently the majority of players were all about social interaction.

Talking with GamerZines, Visceral Games executive producer Steve Papoutsis explains that "Multiplayer was the most requested feature for Dead Space 2. Numerous people wanted to be able to experience Dead Space with their friends after finishing the single player story."

He also dropped a couple of feel-good quotes, such as "One thing we wanted to address in the sequel was the feeling of Isaac being an errand boy, someone who simply took directions and blindly did what he was told" ... "he is not passively following orders instead he is actively seeking for answers or taking matters into his own hands."

And those dreaded PC controls for Dead Space you hated so much? "Our goal with the PC version was to improve the controls from the last game and I think we have done that." January is going to be a fun month indeed.

This should read "The most requested feature EA was willing to listen to" Bullshit people wanted multiplayer... co-op maybe but not what is going to be in the game...

I have only played the PC version of Dead Space and I didnt think the controls were that bad at all. I remap reload to my mouse and crank up the sensitivity to max, but thats not too much of a change.

The PC controls were absolutely fine for most people, and bad for a very vocal minority. I've played through the game probably 4 times now, twice on PS3 and twice on PC, and the controls were perfect.

Also, I'd have preferred some coop rather than L4D style matches, but meh. Looks good enough.

This is the next game I'm buying. I hope the online turns out to be good. Which it probably wont. But I'm still getting the collector edition and the story will be good enough. I hope the online is good but I won't be disapointed if it isn't.

This, LBP2, and then Killzone 3 in February, and I'm one happy gamer. :) ps3 dead space has free extraction! Which owns! I love PS Move.

goodbye rich, fulfilling single player campaigns. From now on multiplayer will be made first and a 2 hour long single player mode will be made from multiplayer assets (what every FPS game is doing)

Hmm...So not being constantly thrown in a room with locked doors having to kill wave after wave of monsters over and over again was not a request? Online Co-Op I could understand but the Humans vs Monsters thing is just lame. I know, I played the lame demo.

I hear some negativity and doubt... but i just now played an Uncharted MP session it it was a blast. That game proves that you can have a solid campaign with a great multiplayer. I think both aspects are great and still enjoy both.

Uncharted 2 Multiplayer is awesome :D

nothing beats hanging in a ledge, grabing people, falling and killing them.

not sure if dead space 2 needs a multiplayer. will see soon enough.

Bullshit, the people who demanded multiplayer are fucking stupid. MAYBE co-op at best, but it would need to be like what FEAR 3's co-op is gonna be, separating players and whatnot.

In addition to that, it should also implement a manipulation of in game voice chat, I.E. you can't communicate in specific areas or when you're signal is blocked/out of range with the other player. This would help heighten moments and maybe make for some incredibly fucking awesome co-op moments and epic puzzle-like boss fights.

But no, we're not getting this. All I can say is that it better not feel boring and tacked on. If I have fun, that's all that matters.

Oh god... in cases like this I wish developers did NOT listen to customers. Multiplayer was the most requested feature for Bioshock 2 and we all saw under-played that was.

Thanks to the gutting of the single player and the pointless addition of multiplayer, I'll be buying this used.

Cue the waves of people judging the game already even though it isn't out yet. If it's roughly a 10~11 hour campaign like last game, and the multiplayer isn't tacked on, but has its own storyline to it, this will be an improvement over the last. Don't get me wrong, I loved Dead Space, but I don't think I would have if I didn't pick it up for $20. There was not much gameplay, even if it was really more about an insanely atmospheric and unique experience than length.

But hey, I've already got the PS3 Special Edition pre-ordered, so I'm getting more game than everyone else already. Should be an excellent game, can't wait.

@Maniac I actually really liked Bioshock 2. Granted, it wasn't as good as the first game, but for a sequel that was pretty much just about the cash, it was pretty damn refreshing. In fact, I really liked the multiplayer addition to the game a lot, even though I only probably played it for 10 or so hours.

So it's them trying please the fans that may have lead to them adding a multiplayer that wasn't needed Huh....Ain't that something...But..but why would Fans ever do that? O_o I Was under the impression that playing a game means you know how to make a good game...wait...that's not true? I see now. xD

Ild rather have the time and energy used for the single player game then what will probably be a tacked on piece of crap like Bioshock 2 online mode. One of these days gamers will realise that games that focus on single player or online / co-op are usually better if theyre seperate game, rather then the tick all the boxes, jack of all trades master of nane shite we have atm. Even if companies started releasing their online content as DLC would probably force the games content to be better then sub par. (DLC wont happen anytime soon considering how value for money gamers are)

I just wanna know where all these gamers are that want online multiplayer? Considering the only ppl in this coments section arnt too keen on the idea, Ild say its BS or the gamers who supposedly want it arnt Deadspace fans, more like your run of the mill COD or TF2 gamer who just arnt intrested in DS (This would explain EAs futile attempts to attract them with online modes)

Sometimes the majority just means all the idiots are on the same side, i believe this is one of those times, that said, unless the main campaign's quality is affected by the multiplayer focus i don't really care.

I got the beta code, but it was for one night and I couldn't do it. Later on I saw vids basically with an arena style match with Issacs vs. necros. It looked like it would get old really quick. Having full co-op story mode or having to escape a ship or something before it explodes would have been better I think.

I just hope all this multiplayer crap doesn't effect the single player campaign. Please Ea, don't turn one of the last good survival horror games into a shitty multiplayer/ coop third person shooter like capcom did with RE5.

Gamers want everything. Unfortunately the vast majority of gamers don't buy single player games only en mass anymore unless it fits an arbitrary time standard for them. So adding multiplayer increases the time you can spend in the game.

I suspect some marketing manipulation at work, but I also wonder if the polls EA ran on this ended up hitting a lot CoD/Halo frat fucks, who say they are all pumped up for multiplayer, when they have zero intention of following through on a purchase of DS2.
