Easily one of my top five games this generation was Visceral Games' Dead Space. In some sort of miracle, hyping the survival horror title up to be this beast of a game didn't ruin it for me -- in fact, I found it to live up to my admittedly high expectations.
But after CVG found this LinkedIn ad for a "lead combat and controls designer" for "the Dead Space franchise on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3" (re: Dead Space 2), I've been thinking. Similar to how Resident Evil 4 saw the high levels of success that it did, now Dead Space must not only bring the same level of quality, but it's also got to expand and innovate further.
In the case of the Resident Evil series, we all know what happens when you follow the same formula too closely. The job listing says the "same core team is in place," so I remain hopeful until there is reason not to be. Upon looking at Visceral's site, I did happen to see a few more openings, for those currently trying to find work.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
hopefully whoever they end up hiring knows how to actually design a game rather than a laundry list of popular game mechanics.
How much is Dead Space now? I could go for some hot horror hijinks.
I swear it's like a whole new game on that difficulty. Really nerve-racking, especially because you die in just a few hits (I even used the glitch to start with the military suit, and they still tore me to pieces).
Loved that game, and I'm excited to see a sequel is in the works.
Either way I can't wait for Dead Space 2.
Dead Space made me drop every other game I was playing and I gave it my full attention until I got 100% for trophies, the ONLY game that I've been so driven to fully complete.
This and MGS4 were my GOTY
Dead Space 2 will be a pre-order game for me 100%
Like mix, I dropped everything I was playing after missing this game for months. While I thought it was a solid game, nothing else about it was good. The characters, the pseudo-scientology story, the repetitive uninspired enemy models, the gun selection that only had a few actually good weapons in it, the stagnant behemoth bosses I beat on the first try...
A solid 7. I'll get Dead Space 2 though, because its a step in the right direction in terms of reviving survival horror.
Stealth, done right in Dead Space, could be something special.
But that's just me randomly spewing an idea.
Army of Two franchise is going to be nearly two by the time 40th day comes out......
For example, taking totally great game mechanics and ruining them for absolutely no discernible reason. Dead Space was worlds better than RE5, so hopefully DS2 will continue the trend of being the best next-gen survival horror series (casts dirty look at Silent Hill: Homecoming).
So I love 'dead space.'
Packed with more close up HD gore animation of any game ever made to my knowledge, vicerally scary because of it's excellent sound design (I play this game through a subwoofer and 120 watt RMS Alesis Studio Monitors), and great art design.
Should have been 'Game of the Year.' Can't understand why this wasn't a massive success.
As much as you hear developers talking about the need for story - this game had a prequel movie and web comic built into the events of the first game.
Centered around a death cult that just mirrors republican end times zombie "christians" all too closely - loads of fun conceptually.
I played it through 3 times on med hard and insane difficulty.
I would have to say the best thing about the game design/ weapons is that you never feel powerful enough to kaboom your way through attackers. Which keeps tension and anxiety high. It keeps you cautious and it makes the experience of play feel harrowing.
For PS3 I would say this is my favorite shooter, then killzone2.
I really love the first one. But I think the navigation system makes the exploration so damn easy. The map isn't very useful either so I ended up using it all the time.
For me, getting lost and being frustrated by the puzzles are part of the fun of survival horror games.
I've been playing Extraction, and I'm really impressed at the work they did to make an integrated part of the Dead Space universe, rather than just a cash-in light gun game. While the RE Chronicles light gun games feel like House of the Dead with the RE character's names popping up occasionally, DS Extraction feels like a "real" Dead Space game. This is hard to explain.
