It means you'll have to beat it in 3 sittings. The save system is probably the same as Dead Space 1.
Not cool, but not having attempted it I could be misinterpreting the challenge a little. Maybe it's tuned a little bit better than that,, but we'll see.
three saves to complete the game, like in everytime you fire up a save point that's 1 less save you have left.
This is genius yet at the same time pure evil, I'm a religious saver, that's gaming 101 save often and use multiple files.
As previously stated, there for those who want to extra challenge but I for one, won't be bothering with it, unlock/achieve and all.
Anyways looking forward to it a lot. :D
3 saves means you can't play when you want to. Quick saves means there's always tension.
How do you all know that it doesn't mean if you die you go back to your last save (of 3 max) but if you quit and continue later it picks up from where you left off (temporary autosave).
That would be the obvious way to do it from a designer's perspective.
Also- love the idea and will play!
Sounds like they really hit the right mark on how to create tension. The fear is created by knowing that you'll have to go back and repeat a LOT if you screw up but by offering 3 saves you can break the game up. Plus it's purely optional - no unlock-able would be worth it for anyone who wouldn't try it anyway - hopefully the unlock won't be something overpowered and stupid (because you've already dominated and clocked the game entirely). Personally I'd hope for some aesthetically fantastic (maybe skins for multiplayer?) or a carry over for Dead Space 3 (because that's inevitable).
If you want an example of a game with a GREAT hard mode - see Hero Core (B&W metroidvania.)
Humans respond well to the number three. Look at all of the threes in literature, books, movies and games. Three lives in games, collect three gems (Or seven), trilogies, etc.
Picking my copy up on Friday. Can't wait!
