Dead Rising 2 scheduled to launch this year photo

According to a new Japanese press release from Capcom, Dead Rising 2 will be shambling onto home consoles before 2010 is finished. The sequel to the successful zombie-splattering sandbox had been without a release window thus far. We were all pretty sure it'd drop this year though.

Capcom will also be working on a live action movie to tie-in with Dead Rising 2's release. Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun is what it shall be called, and that's more or less all we know about the bloody thing.

Looking forward to Dead Rising 2? Hoping they improve the save feature this time around, or are you one of those crazy people that liked it? Either way, the game should please fans. They've certainly waited long enough for a sequel.

I'm actually one of the crazy people who liked the save system, mainly because I knew what the game wanted from me. I didn't dick around and I went out of those safe rooms fully prepared. I mean that's the point in a zombie invasion!

Anyway, I can't wait for the sequel. If they keep the tongue-in-cheek satire from the original, it should be just as fun.

It actually HAD a release date in March. Thanks to every other game coming out then, especially big names like Yakuza 3 and Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey, they've wisely moved it out of that time. I'm kind of thankful actually.

This would be huge news, had it not been obvious that it was getting pushed back.

I just want more info on the Multiplayer, everything I've seen seems awesome but sort of vague.

It worries me how quiet Capcom has been about this game. Considering how many people liked the first game, you'd think they'd be banging the hype drum a bit more.

I've enjoyed the save feature in Dead Rising. Actually, I think all skilled players agree that was the best option for the game.

Yes, I also think that's a little weird. I mean, the original game was great, and the new one seems even better, a little hype wouldn't be that bad.

Dead Rising's save system was annoying at times, but I feel like it really helped add longevity to the game. It was nice being able to carry over your status between playthroughs. Leveling Frank up to 50 and completing overtime mode was the first time in a long time that I felt like I really accomplished something significant in a video game. I also had a 5+ survival day in infinite mode, but my 360 RRODed... *sigh*....

Personally, I hope DR2 maintains the challenge, and doesn't go all easy to appease the masses.

I liked the save feature once I got a better feeling of the mall and the way I was supposed to be playing.

I'm also one of those crazy people... having only one savegame forced you to think a lot about every decision you made, who you'd rescue and who to let die, and as stated above, you'd have to plan ahead and be prepared before leaving that saferoom/bathroom.... On most games I tend to have various savegames just in case, but I rarely go back to a previous savestate after I've accomplished something, and on modern games you almost never get to save while stuck on a dead end situation.

If the game has branching paths, I just man up and leave it for another replay.

The only drawback in my opinion was if your savegame gets corrupted, but so far I haven't heard of any corrupt savegame issues with this game.

I'm really stoked for this game, the original was one of the few games I was jealous of the 360 for.

This is despite me picking up Chop Till you drop last night and being sick of it after 10 minutes.

Seriously? you can release a game that bad and because it's on the Wii it's OK?

I play every game with only one save file?

Is this not common?

I find it kind of spoils the immersion to be loading other saves and jumping around in game time.

I never got into the first one too much but I'll hit it up again before this comes out.

Loved the original and the it's save feature. I am in agreement with everything folks have said about that... I think the save feature was perfect for skilled players because it actually challenged players without being a hand-holding babyfest. I also hope they don't dumb it down for all the whiners - or at least put an option in there to switch up the gameplay to your liking. Either way, I'm excited, if a little reticent to see how this turns out.

I just hope they fix the controls. Too damn stiff the first time around.

@hpv: Aww, gonna miss the way Frank ran around like he just crapped his pants.... I assume I'd look like that (and do exactly thant) in the same situation.
