Dead Rising 2 not in development, Inafune 'very busy' photo

You might remember that not too long ago, Famitsu had reported that the sequel to zombie slaughtering mega-hit, Dead Rising, was in development. Well, everyone can relax, because according to Keiji Inafune (Capcom's  head of Research & Development and Online Business), that's not happening quite yet.

In an interview with Game Informer, Inafune had this to say:

This is something we hear a lot from the press—Dead Rising 2, and we’re not making it right now, but it is something I would love to make. I would love to be able to take some time off from my business-side responsibilities just to be able to produce it myself—that’s how much I love the game and would love to do it.

Inafune goes on to whine about things like "money" and "time," lamenting that he's "very busy." Pffft! I have the solution: pull everyone who is working on the nine different versions of Mega Man Battle Network ZX Black Granite Stonewash Edition (or any game that doesn't include zombies, for that matter) and get some cats working on Dead Rising 2.

Please. For the love of God. Just ... please.

[Thanks, Buck!]

Lost Planet 2 would also be pretty nice.

@ Nick: I think you should make an exception for a possible Mega Man Legends 3, which could, according to Inafune, be made with the Dead Rising/Lost Planet engine if they were so inclined to actually make it.

Seriously, Nick...how many versions of friggin' Mega Man Battle Network do we need? For thet matter, why do we need "new" Mega Man games at all? Haven't there been upwards of a hundred seperate Mega Man games made in the last 20 years or so? That's fucking retarded. I've gained a lot of respect for Capcom so far in this generation, so let's see them not fuck it up, hmm?

@ buster:

I think zombies would sooner eat your ass than actually lick it, but I certainly hope the ass isn't the fastest way to your brain. ;D

ZOMBIES! :p

They had enough time to release some shitty new costumes on the Marketplace! I want my Resident Evil 2/Dead Rising combo WITH co-op and better survivor AI.

They still in the works of a co-op add-on? or was that just a rumor by terrible people?

I've run out of things to do in Dead Rising. I even committed genocide. Give me something besides super cool clothes in the DLC department.

Yes, anything zombie-related is good. Especially, (pretty much only) if done by Capcom.

The game totally failed to meet expectations in Japan.

They probably have to seriously rethink a sequel to DR for any hopes of it making Capcom enough money to warrant it's existance.

I love the game, but it needs co-op, and better survivor AI for me to consider finishing it.

My favorite group on facebook is "The hardest part of a zombie apocalypse is going to be pretending that I'm not excited", btw =)
