I guess if they intend to market games to the world, they may have to do a little catching up. Would it really be so bad if the characters were attractive 20 year olds??
The DoA characters don't look THAT much like teenagers anyway.
It will hurt for those in Sweden if that's what you mean. But otherwise it should sell pretty well everywhere else.
Lots of countries have stupid laws that don't make sense. Here in the UK you have to be 16 to have sex but 18 to watch porn. Similarly, you can join the army at 16 but can't play some violent games until you're 18.
This isn't pornographic, it's just perverted. I still don't get how you quantify a digital characters 'age.' Are we basing it solely on looks? Because I've seen several 15-16 year old girls that could have easily passed for 18-19 if they wanted to. And several 20 year old girls that could pass for 15 if they wanted to.
And unless Sweden has banned the internet, computers, cell phones and snail mail, this does no good anyway.
I'll be in line to pick up my preorder tomorrow.
No the Age of Consent in Sweden is 15 for people under 18. If a 16 and a 17 year old couple have sex, not a problem. If a 16 and 19 year old couple have sex, problem.
every single DOA title have been released here!
I don't understand if this is a Swedish thing why we have to suffer?
Clearly DOA isn't child ponography!
Stupid Sweden ruining everyones fun.
And secondly, wouldn't that mean that they've already broken the law once before, since the Dreamcast version of Dead or Alive 2 has a simple cheat code to allow you to see Kasumi nude in the opening cutscene?
Everyone who tries this out now is going to be put on a watch list.
Allthough it's important to point out that this game is NOT illegal in Sweden, It's just that the Scandinavian distributor of Nintendo games - Bergsala (based in Sweden) - decided to play it safe by not releasing the game; most likely due to the large controversy caused by the manga translator/child pornography incident a while back. It's just a bloody shame that this desicion had to effect us Norwegians (and Danes) as well.
But for any Scandinavians reading who are interested in buying the game, I suggest Amazon.co.uk. You'll get the game MUCH cheaper, and if you order today, you'll get the game before they restart their daily DLC thing again by the end of June (Tina catgirl outfit, woohoo!).
The biggest issue is all because of stupid region lock
@ RenegadePanda Well, guess we would be shitting a whole lot of bricks then as there's lots of American TV in Sweden.
There is clearly a dubble standard going on here though as its ok to sell bikinis and whatnot to four year olds. Fucked up.
Get over yourself. We have alot of the endless shitstreams of reality-tv shows from the US running here more uncensored then they are on your channels. Same goes with music. Just about every song i have heard played that uses foul languange goes by without a bleep.
Dont forget that more atheists live in this country then the fucked up christian mass that run yours.
And im not saying this country has everything right, alot of the laws are old and bullshit, but to claim that people here would have a heart attack at your tv-shows, or japanese for that matter(wich alot of tv-shows here in Sweden try to copy) proves that you dont know shit.
And on the topic just to explain what all this is about.
In Sweden there is a large community/forum called Flashback. There is nothing that you _cant_ find on that forum, everything from how to shoot heroine to how you best plant and harvest tomatoes. Usually when a "celebrity" in Sweden has done something bad, like getting busted for possession of narcotics or the likes, you go to Flashback to know who it was, cause someone there will know.
This started with a guy who started a thread and asked the people if it could be worth going to the police about the contents of the game to _challenge_ the swedish child pornography law, since(as you can read from Asmodeus nWo's post above) a guy got arrested and prosecuted for translating manga. He who made the complaint didnt want the game to be banned, he wanted to start a discussion about how fuckin stupid the law could be in some cases.
This escalated and another forum-user who seemed to be genually offended by this(or he/she just wanted to fuck it up for everyone else just for fun) really filed a complaint about the game in wich the police responded "inconclusive" and probably wouldnt have given two shits if the game was released.
It was then that Nintendo decided not to release the game.
Too bad this happened, not that i care about the game. And i think the first guys motive was noble from the beginning, it just escalated to something more.
@TheWretchedCrow
Comparing us to Australia is insane, a 100y old guy fuckin a 15y girl is not legal, and whats wrong with gay marriage? What are you, 15?
It is legal if the girl is willing to do it. Otherwise it would be rape which is illegal.
Also I don't have a problem with gay marriage. I merely pointed it out because it's illegal in most countries but sweden thus proving that this law (which is a pretty rare law if you look through the laws of a lot of other countries) Doesn't fit into sweden and the country it wants to be. Don't talk out of your arse and accuse me for being an ignorant hillbilly ;}
And in comparing us to Australia i meant that this will probably escalate to the point where every game which includes a provocatively dressed female under the age of 18 will be banned or cancelled. We aren't there yet but if this continues it wont be long before we will be one of those famous ban countries.
Thing is though that this game isnt illegal and no one in Sweden said it was, so it has nothing to do with a police or politician decision.
It was Nintendos(Bergsalas) own choice of not releasing it.
Sure if it got out to the masses some people would have probably cried in Aftonbladet like they always do, but the game would still not be illegal and forgotten in a matter of days.
I still think we are pretty liberal here with both games and movies
That said, if Nintendo got charged with distribution of child pornography, regardless of how absurd the allegations are, I'd LOL.
And this would be a bad thing? I'm thinking as long as she's provocatively dressed for no valid reason, like storyline or such, its just filth and deserves to be banned. Here (Sweden) and everywhere else.
