That badass trailer worked! Movie get. Lionsgate announced today that it has acquired the film rights Dead Island, and that they've begun working on a movie. Sean Daniel ("The Mummy") will produce the zombie flick, says LA Times.
A statement from Lionsgate says that the movie will be "an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling."
So what they're telling me is that it will be as much of a "beautiful mess" as the game was?
A film on this game could be cool, but somehow I get the feeling that it won't measure up to that original game trailer. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Will there be a screener release called Director's Island....just asking¿
Two weeks later people played a build with a rapper beating zombies up with a baseball bat.
The game's fun, but man was that trailer absurd!
Luckily it ended up not entirely being a L4D ripoff, but yeah, I don't recall many people really being under the illusion of it being anything like the trailer suggested.
In other news, more zombie movies.
I'm with you, WWZ was a great book. They should make that movie. I haven't played this game yet so maybe someone here can enlighten me. Is there any real depth to the story or is it just a bloody zombie killing festival?
Both are good. Just curious how they plan on turning this into a movie.
@Tristrix - I was in the forums when the trailer released. The first two pages were posts hoping for a more realistic take on the concept of a zombie apocalypse. There was a dev describing the "realistic" weapons on an interview, which made purple think it really could be a post-apocalyptic tragedy requiring scavenging to survive... and literally within a week we see electric bats and a Dead Rising game in first person.
I'd love to see a zombie game with the atmosphere from Raccoon City that doesn't feature crazy amounts of ammo and military grade weapons, mutated non-zombies, and actually requires you to survive. The freedom of Dead Rising and Dead Island, with the atmosphere of the original Resident Evils.
Are zombies here to stay? There has always been an appetite for them, but since 2004 & the release of Shaun/Dawn of the Dead their popularity has hardly waned at all.
True. But since the movie will probably have nothing to do with the game, they might as well just make a zombie movie inspired by the Dead Island trailer without exactly saying it's a Dead Island movie. The trailer was misleading enough.
"emotions of an apocalypse tearing families apart, and how to survive afterward. Sounds better than most zombie movies."
Watch The Road. EXCELLENT flick.
Speaking of which, World War Z has running zombies as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma8l5udOlvc
Everyone wins and zombies get beat.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
