If they never won GOTY from pretty much anything important, why can't it just be called "Complete edition" or anything else?

I actually loved the game too (it's among the top ten most played on my Raptr file), I just don't harbor any delusions that it was a game of the year! lol
These editions have made me completely lose meaning for the phrase "Game of the Year". In my mind, I read that and instantly go "Oh! So it just comes with all the DLC." It has just become the name for these sorts of things and it really shouldn't be. I blame Fallout 3.

Seriously what's the issue? It was buggy sure but island was huge, the melee system was awesome, it was everything I wanted from a zombie game, gimme a survival mode in the sequel and I'll never need another game.

Was I living under a rock for the past year? When was Dead Island considered or even nominated for Game of the Year?
Not only that I put in 61 hours. Not a huge amount compared to some of the other games I've played but by far several times what I put into most. I haven't stopped playing it either, according to Steam the last time I did was April 23.
I love Dead Island. I bought it with zero expectations and was pleasantly surprised. But, everyone's different.
Better than calling it the "The Quit the game at the wrong quest stage and load in surrounded by gun-wielding thugs" edition.
Love it and still play as well. Best Zombie survival game ever (note that I did not say best Zombie game ever). In fact gonna pop it in tonight. Who da ya voodoo bitch?
I bought it without any expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I still have not put enough hours in it, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the time spent so far. Easily one of my favorite "diamond in the rough" games of 2011.

Loved the combat, the exploration, jumped like a loon no end of times and lopping off limbs with a danged good knife or cleaver never got old.

It was a pretty decent game, fun at times even if the levelling was wonky and the story pretty weak, it's not 'game of the year' by any stretch of the imagination though.
dead island was my GOTY, dont give a fuck if you like that or not.

hell portal 2 won bafta game of the year... I enjoyed it, it was funny, but it was really the first game with extra padding and nothing I felt was worth playing through twice. It definitly wasnt up there on playtime for me.

Well thats good for you, for me it was an enjoyable game that offered no real replay value past a second attempt and was buggy as shit. So yea.
I enjoyed my time with the game, but its definitely not my GOTY. If the save glitches were fixed...then yeah. It had a chance.

I know its semantics but the game wasn't anyones GOTY. It was a good game and all, definetly worth playing, but theres a good many reasons I could list why no one gave it that kind of awarding or title.

(And* seriously though, if this game is marked any where close to full price at release I'll call Bullshit instantly. You can get the game and its two DLC's far cheaper --right now-- and all you'll really be getting extra is the Ripper mod, which was a pre-order bonus, and not really isn't worth all that much at that..

Crysis2, DeadIsland, BulletStorm, Catherine, DeadSpace2, Gears3, Uncharted3 were my games for the 2011 year in that order.

Mario3dLand and Infamous2 were also in my gotys. Also didn't finish rayman origins, Enoch, ShadowsofDamned, mw3, and bf3. Didn't play UMvc3 for that much.
I'll always have fond memories of running around the city level, zombies coming at me from all sides, screaming their heads off, and all this with headphones blasting. It genuinely scared the shit out of me (I may have been a little stoned too, but hey).
And then I realised you can just jump onto car/truck roofs where the zombies can't get you and just pick them off one by one, making a dash for it when the coast is clear. Kind of killed the fear, but I still have a lot of love for this game.

I've read a review on metacritic that gave crysis2 a 7/10. I did notice most of the stuff he pointed out but I still felt that if taken as a whole the graphics, body armor, and enemies give it a unique feel of immersion that I don't find in any other fps.
