In my previous post about Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, I suggested that new game-exclusive characters needed to be introduced in order to spice up the franchise. I suppose Spike and Namco Bandai were listening, but since they are too lazy to do any real work towards that goal, it'll be up to us to get the job done. To that end, Ultimate Tenkaichi will offer character creation.
In the game's Hero Mode, you can slap together various body parts to assemble your own DBZ reject. Now, I have much respect for Akira Toriyama, but his post-DBZ-era "original" creations all look alike. Facial features, clothing, all stopped developing past the early 90s. Essentially, further characters (with extremely rare exceptions) are like fan art of his own material. It's sad that the slapped-together circus performers in the above trailer are almost indistinguishable from Toriyama's handiwork.
I'm sure some clever designs will eventually make through. You can give it a go yourself when Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi arrives on PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 25.
Am I the only one who doesn't like this behind-the-back camera angle? I had a Dragon Ball game on PS2 that had camera angles like Tekken or other 3D fighters. And I played the hell outa that game. But this behind-the-back and split screen stuff, I just can't get into.
I want a 2D fighter produced by Aksys or someone with enough experience and make a great 2D fighting dragon ball z game OR at least let the Tekken team or Dead or Alive team give it a whirl.
I think it's a pretty cool idea actually. I'm still not going to get it though, because the Tenkaichi series is fucking horrible. Please make a Budokai 4 or Burst Limit 2. Hell I'll even take a Super DragonBall Z 2.
Hey, depending on how robust the character creation thing is (which probably won't be very, sadly), maybe we could make other fictional/non-fictional characters into DBZ style. :P
haha I loved dbz but yeah... besides a handful of the villains and weirder characters (seriously wtf was chiaotzu meant to be?) everyone else was just the same guy with slightly different powers, hair and personality. They couldn't even be bothered giving them unique outfits at one point.
From the look of it, you can only make a male Saiyan. I wouldn't be surprised if the silhouette screen is actually showing all the available bodies.
So it looks like you won't be able to make Super Saiyan Pan or anything like that. I wouldn't be surprised if it is too limited to make a SSJ3/4 Gohan.
For the most part, the only thing that really differentiates Akira Toriyama's characters, both in and out of DBZ, are the hairstyles so they better have a ton of choices in that department. A good thing they added the option for female characters because lord knows the ration of male to females in DBZ is astronomically one-sided.
why can't we be happy for this feature finally being offered, besides all this talk about toriyama's artstyle being stagnant is a little harsh since it is his style.
Besides fanfiction authors across the planet are weeping with joy as they can now create their OC's
I don't care about the haters,I loves me some DBZ games and I can't wait to get this one...
Now,if only I could have a sequel to Attack of the Saiyans...
I cant believe you can look at a charecter like Piccilo then look at Krillin and say all Akiras designs look the same :I I wouldnt be surprised if alot of these posts have never seen DB or DBZ and are just saying it cause "Tony Ponce" did
The customization also looks quite in depth, not lazy at all
Adam, Tony's complaint was that post-DBZ Toriyama art became repetitive.
And it kind of did.
I'd say Toriyama was most creative during DB (which saw the creation of both Piccolo and Krillin). DBZ wasn't bad, but Toriyama started falling into some patterns here. It didn't help that DBZ was mostly a small set of long combat arcs (so you ended up with 50+ episodes fighting the same characters), everyone got multiple transformations, everyone was using similar attacks (as power leveling killed attack variety), new heroes stopped being introduced and started being descendents of existing characters, and the movies introduced variations of existing characters (like Cooler being another Frieza.)
DBGT was the cash grab. SSJ4 was like a fan-fiction. At the time it aired, I'd heard stories that Toriyama originally turned down the idea, but that could have just been wishful thinking on the part of Toriyama fans who wanted to see better of him.

To be honest about it, so did a lot of the stuff that came before it and during. It's just the guy's artistic style. And generally speaking it can also be said about anime at large.

It seemed like a good idea at the time: Take the popular Dragon Ball Z fighting games and put them in first person perspective with Kinect controls, allowing players to punch, kick, and Kamehameha their way through the series' popular battles, allowing players to be immersed in the Dragon Ball world like never before.
Wait... Kinect? No, I was wrong. That doesn't seem like a good idea at all.
Earlier this month we learned that Dragon Ball Z Budokai and Budokai 3 are getting re-released in an HD package. Namco has finally confirmed that this collection will also be coming to North America this Winter for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Neato.

I guess Dtoid Show host Max Scoville didn't want to believe me when I said how Dragon Ball Z For Kinect will want to make you cry. He decided to go hands-on with it back at E3, and it turns out he really liked it. Probably because he's a freakishly giant child who likes stupid things.
I, on the other hand, still can't get over how not fun Dragon Ball Z For Kinect is.

As promised, here's the video of me playing Dragon Ball Z For Kinect following-up on my hands-on impressions. Just look at me go! Flailing away like an idiot. Don't I look so happy?!
For the record, I'm not faking anything here. I really felt this miserable during the entire experience.
