I love the idea of promoting a new game release with a contest; it's a pretty foolproof concept. I definitely like the idea of being allowed to shoot Sweet Tooth's ice cream truck with a machine gun. Sounds perfect, right?
My one hangup with this plan is that you're not physically shooting the gun. They've devised a system in which you aim the guns via satellite from the comfort of your couch. Still cool; you're still shooting something, but my excitement for the experience dwindled ever so slightly.
Head on over to the Shoot My Truck site and sign up with either your Facebook or Twitter account and wait for the big day.
I am not saying I can read Mr. Jaffe's mind, but his own opinions on modern first party game development (PAX Keynote 2011) have centered around the fact that the scope of developing a first-party game has made huge departures from the pure focus of working with a concentrated team. Being the ringleader of a 300+ team spread around the Earth is no simple undertaking. Add the pressure of Sony, who IS their publishing watchdog to make an ad that paints him as some pottymouth delinquent, and you got a recipe for stress/frustration/misunderstanding.
No wonder he'd prefer to develop for iOS devices with a smaller team; he wants to return to a more modest & organic form of game development rather than the whole spectacle of a big named conquest.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Sony has no shame, seriously
ALSO- setting up a remote gun that uses the internet sounds like a prime hacker target.
