According to 1UP, David Jaffe and Incognito Entertainment head Scott Campbell are forming a new, independent studio to be based out of sunny Utah. This supports earlier rumblings and rumors about Jaffe's possible move towards independent status; pictures of an empty studio posted on his blog a few weeks ago caused the Internet's pants to explode at the seams.
Jaffe, in a thread on NeoGAF (in which his avatar is that of English actress Kate Beckinsale), maintains that he still works for Sony Computer Entertainment ... for now:
I can promise you guys I am still part of SCEA...I just got a paycheck from them! I am still 100% a Sony employee and unless I got fired today and they didn't tell me, I'm still working for them. Also, I love working with the guys at Incog and hope to work with them for a long, long time but I sure as shit ain't moving to Utah...nice as it is, I don't think I could live there long term and I don't think the good people of Utah would want me to :)

And even if he's just running it, the fact that someone like Jaffe is running a new studio can only be good for game designers wanting a bit of freedom.
Imagine seeing his games on XBLA, PSN and VC... brings a single tear to my eye.
All Jaffe would have to do is marry 17 wenches and the mormons and him would by cool.
