David Jaffe flips out about how good God of War III looks, we get excited photo
     Sony

When it comes to God of War III, it doesn't take much to get us excited. With Sony barely revealing the game at E3 with a CG teaser trailer, we're already drooling all over ourselves not having seen a single frame of the game in action.

But David Jaffe, the designer of the original PlayStation 2 title, has and certainly he liked what he saw. A lot.

"I saw God of War III when I was in Santa Monica last week," he writes on his blog, "I [can't] and will not give away details, but I think it's OK for me to say two things -- HOLY HOLY HOLY F**KING HELL!!!!"

He then goes on to say that while he thought that Epic's Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 2 was as good as any next-gen game could look, God of War III has proven him wrong. (He also refers to Gears of War 2 as "the s**t," which is a more eloquent way of summarizing our own review.)

"This motherf**king game looks like nothing you've ever played," he continues, "and you can hold me to that when this thing hits, when they start showing gameplay footage. It looks like a painting come to life, it's that good looking."

What's that we hear in the distance? It's the hype-train pulling into town, and the conductor is collecting tickets -- who's hopping on?

Excitement building...

Any kind of a time frame attached to this game, or just the nebulous "2009"?

Pardon me if I don't care how great it looks. Big companies have the resources to pump into the graphics and take full advantage of the systems specs. That doesn't mean it gonna play well! I wish the was head over heels for the FU*KING GAMEPLAY!

Good lord all you haters..this series has done nothing but give us two of the greatest action adventure games ever made, I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt here.

I was thinking quite a bit about what this game would look like when playing the part in locust hive in gears 2.. And this was sure one of the games I had on my mind when I plunked down the $$ to buy my big black box..consider me on board.

Have the other 2 previous God of War games disappointed on gameplay? I thought they played damn well. They aren't going to mess with that, at least I hope not. I've definatly got a chubby for this game, we'll see how it actually does look when we get some gameplay footage.

Maybe because ive only played each title for a couple of hours at my mates house i thought they were good? I read loads of moaners comments, but hey you get em, some fool gave Gears 2 a 90% score, thats just dumb! 95% at least!
I for one am looking forward to it...although i wont buy a ps3 for it...

@ TorpedoTed : The fact of the matter is any game that is very popular and has near universal acclaim will get the most shit on a message board. The biggest games get the most hate, it's the price being on top.

The past two games were fucking fun, I don't really know what haters are complaining about. [Spoiler?] Where else can you run Zeus through with a badass sword and then repeatedly smash his face into a rock?

Is it because God of War brought the dreaded quick time event to the masses?

I don't buy any hype from Sony. Why do they still do this bad PR? Everytime they promise something they barely deliver. E.g.: Home, announced at PS3 launch. Where the fuck is it? Another same example is Killzone 2. Or how about the graphics of Killzone 2 that got polished. But hey, whatever, because zomg!#!@$ The PS3 got a blu-ray drive, nyah!

Don't get me wrong, I played both God of War games on PS2 and enjoyed them, but I couldn't care less about their PR crap.

As long as it's got blood, swords on chains, and Kratos making deals with jerks that later screw him over to the point of murdering said jerks with swords on chains... I'm in. Everything else: bonus.
DeathStrikesBack's Avatar

this game damn near requires another slamming a door into a dude's head minigame. That was my favorite moment of the second game, especially since I thought the circle was to build up strength, not each button press=door slam, so I just wailed on that fucking bastard...and loved it.

I don't know what you guys think, but Jaffe doesn't work for Sony anymore, and he's not making a penny off of this GoW3. His IP was made on Sony's dime, and it stayed Sony's IP when he left.

As far as gameplay goes, we all know that if it plays as well as GoW and GoW2, it'll be badass.
Rosseh's Avatar
Rosseh at 11/24/2008 11:56
I'm sure it will be badass. It's not that God of War is a bad game, it's just action games in general are getting a little tiring now. The way I play games like that are with large spaces in between. I will complete and action game and then play through a bunch of other, completely different, games.

If I don't do that it ends up getting tiring and loses impact.

Not to mention i actually enjoy the story quite alot it'll be nice to have some next gen graphics to go with it. I'd like to reserve my tickets for that hype train today plz.

Apparently, some of you are a bit misinformed. David Jaffe hasn't worked on a God of War game since, well, God of War. He left SCEA Santa Monica after it and handed the reins over to Cory Barlog for God of War II, and that turned out okay -- and Barlog, in turn, has nothing to do with God of War III. This isn't Sony's "PR machine" or anything like that; it's the independent, unadulterated opinion of one man, someone who, as Niero put it, doesn't mince words.

So all things considered, my boner for this game just shot through the roof.

Day one, midnight, waiting outside a store, whatever the situation, Sony has my 60 dollars for this game. Just another one of the reasons (MGS4 being the first) I said "it's all okay..." when I paid for my ps3. Now I just need to see some confirmation that Team ICO's next game is out sometime next year and that 500 dollars was all worth it.
