I'm a bit of a sucker for collections of retro games, particularly when it comes to arcade titles since owning the original versions would be prohibitive from a cost and storage perspective. Majesco announced that they'll be publishing a collection of arcade titles from Data East and the above trailer exists as evidence of the game's impending arrival. Which likely means I'll have one more such compilation on my shelf soon.
Data East Arcade Classics looks like a decent group of games. I'm a big fan of Heavy Barrel and Caveman Ninja (AKA Joe & Mac) and the kitsch-lover in me wants to be a bad enough dude to rescue the president. No sign of Karnov in the trailer, the chubby Russian who served as a bit of a mascot for Data East back in the day, but otherwise this appears a solid selection.
The collection is scheduled to release in February with an MSRP of $19.99.

While it is a shame it's only for the Wii, I've already got Magical Drop III for the Sega Saturn and I'm pretty sure that would account for 90% of why I'd buy this game.
Would be nice to see this released on PSN/XBLA, just for online multiplayer.
Yes, there are Wii complainers. Because some people out there would rather play these games and not have to worry that their controller doesn't feel like a piece of crapola. I'd rather be using the Saturn 3D controller to play the games in this collection.
But, hey, it's all personal preference, right? I guess some guys just have tiny hands and can't lift heavy things for extended periods of time. For them, the Wii controller is poi-fect.
Seriously though, this game needs a lot of Karnov. He's a villainous Russian strongman who died and became a warrior of God. He's so badass, he's like something out of a Suda 51 game.
Major props to DataEast (assuming they still own all these properties) for keeping the price down. This could be the best thing for restro gaming imo since the last Sega collection that had all the Shining/Sonic/Golden Axe games. And hey, Magical Drop... I'm super psyched.
What's next, something as drool-worthy as a massive SNK collection?
@A New Challenge
Actually, me wanting to see this game on the PS3 is mainly for:
A) Possibility of Online multiplayer
B) I've already got arcade sticks for the PS3
And yeah, Sega should have released Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on the Wii. It's not like the Wii couldn't have handled it. Hell, they should have tried to release it for the PS2, DS and PSP as well.
I wouldn't mind trying out Caveman Ninja or Heavy Barrel, either. Any one of these games would probably be $5-7 on the Virtual Cosole, so getting all of them for $20? I'm already sold.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And I'd buy this for Joe and Mac alone.
+1

And they're much more likely to be able to on a system that doesn't have a 50% chance of dying, or a shitty d-pad.
It would be nice if this hit other consoles eventually, though, like the Pinball Hall Of Fame: The Williams Collection or No More Heroes did.
