Darksiders promotion extends to all new purchasers photo

Not long ago the mysterious Darksiders "DO NOT DISCARD" voucher was revealed as a promotional device, a code that netted those a free console copy of Red Faction: Guerrilla and some Darksiders swag. If you didn't get a voucher, despite buying the game new, it seemed like you were out of luck. But no more!

In a post entitled "The Codeless are Not Forgotten," on the Darksiders blog, it's been revealed that those without vouchers can still claim their free stuff -- barring that they have these three things: the original receipt for Darksiders, the game's barcode and the five bucks for shipping.

If you have all of those things -- and really, who doesn't have keep their receipts for games they purchased weeks ago? -- hit up this mail-in form and get it to THQ before March 7th. If you live in the US, that is.

So, what? I bought RFG for nothing now?

I demand reparation.

I want an apology and some Rice Krispy treats.

When does that 90 minute demo for Darksiders come out?

I hope there's some correlation between the barcode numbers and the code or I could easily see people double dipping on the offer.

Kind of interesting or I could get both games for about 20 (not new). Brutal legend is on sale for 20 with coupon at Best buy. Getting that.

Is this available everywhere, or is this just a US thing?

can't you buy it new, return it, buy it used, cut out that barcode, return it and then use your first receipt and second barcode to get a free game?

@Danny Leiva - Is Red Faction Guerrilla really worth that?

I'm interested in Darksiders, and I've always wanted to get Red Faction. This sounds like an excellent deal to me. After I try the demo (I think it's this week), I'll decide.

I thought so. RFG was fun as hell, and, really, isn't everything more fun if you don't have to pay for it?

Granted, Danny Leiva's methods might take him all afternoon (and RFG can be purchased for $12.99 at GameFly), but what free game isn't worth an hour or two of fucking GameStop over?

"...who doesn't have keep their receipts for games they purchased weeks ago?" This seems like sarcasm but I keep the receipts for all my video game purchases as well as the purchases of any other expensive electronic equipment. Considering how easy it is for these sort of things to break or have other technical problems, it's a good idea. I still have my receipt from when I purchased Gears of War the week it was released.

I bought it used for $35, and it came with the code, not used.

I bought it new from Gamestop and did not get a code. The shrinkwrap is not at all like what other games use. I suspect they opened them all and resealed them. Yea I'm that paranoid.

I was on the fence about both of these games and haven't purchased either of them. Considering Darksiders is now 40 and RFG will come free (read 5 smackers) with it, I just may have to partake.

Bought this for $30 used at Gamestop yesterday, cha-ching!

Apparently if you return a used game within 1 week you get a full cash refund, and within a month you get full refund in store credit. I didn't realize Gamestop was practically using pre-owned games as free rentals!

So wait...you have to give them the actual barcode? So do people scan the sleeve, or do we actually trust shippers with the real thing?

When I buy a game, I put the receipt in the game box, just in case. I still have a Circuit City receipt in my Fallout 3 box.

If you don't have your receipt the store can probably print you a copy. I had to do this at FYE when I sent my first XBOX 360 in to M$ for repair.

A habit everyone should pick up: when you buy a new game, put the receipt for the game in the case behind the instruction manual. I do this with every game I buy from retail stores now. In situations like this, it would help a lot.

Depending where you bought the game, you can get a new copy of the original receipt. I know best buy will be able to print it out again, assuming you are in Rewards Zone, or paid by credit card. I think original receipt means "not a copy" or "credit card statement doesn't count." I had to get them to reprint my receipt for my computer for that Windows 7 upgrade, I don't remember it saying "Duplicate" or anything like that.
