Just look at this video. He is throwing cars at demons. Throwing cars at demons. This is one of those dev diaries (read: mental masturbation exercises) showing off a new PS3/360 action game, Darksiders: Wrath of War. All I can say is that it looks like something I really, really want.
I can't get enough overly macho action games, and this looks like it could be one of the more notable entries in the genre. The concept is terrific, the designs are fantastic and the gameplay looks like it could be a lot of fun indeed. This has swiftly entered my coverage list, so stay tuned for more details as when we get our grubby little mitts on them.
Whoa! That looks pretty hardcore. The character design and concept art looks amazing! The post apocalyptic atmosphere reminds me of Fist of the North Star.
One thing that worries me though in the trailer, not sure if anyone else heard it and grew angry like I did. I hope and pray that the statement "cool interactive sequences" doesn't mean QTEs. I've learned to hate them in almost every game they lazily slap them in. They are anything but cool and far from interactive imo.
"Oooh, I press CIRCLE, look at him go! Its almost like I was playing..."
The idea that there might not be another Ninja Gaiden hurts, but dear god, this takes away some of the pain!
All these good action games coming out lately. Makes me feel...good. Like in the old days, when Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania and Megaman could all be counted on for excellent 2D action platforming. Now is the age of the stylish 3D action brawler.
Yeah, but he ain't no Bryan Hitch. Too bad the combined otherwise decent talent pool of Mad and Loeb are sinking Ultimates faster than any month-long delays on Millar's run could ever could do.
I've seen quite a bit of this game in action, and you guys haven't seen anything yet. There's some pretty awesome "dungeon instance" levels where you fight huge bosses, and I saw a pretty great battle where you fight a sand worm on horseback. The resulting finisher -- which involves hopping on the worm and slicing down the length of its underside -- was totally awesome.
i've been reading comics for a while and Joe Madureira was always one of my favorite artists. he doesn't do a whole lot of comic book work anymore (aside from the current Ultimates arc which is pretty horrible from a writing perspective) but his style is perfectly suited for game design. i'd buy a special edition of this if it came with an artbook.
After reading IGN's preview a day or so ago I was hoping Destructoid would show some love to what I believe will be the next great big action game.
I can't wait, I've been following this since last year when a few details were released. I can't wait for another quality God of War-esque title and this looks like it will not only fit the bill but raise the bar for God of War III like no other action game before it. Darksiders is the new hotness.
MAD! is an amazing artist and just for his designs im totally waiting this game, but i am a little concerned about the fact that the stages looks a little empty , and being so big i don't want this game to suffer the DMC2 kind of gameplay....
Yeah, that really stuck out for me...I think it is a bad sign when "cool interactive sequences" are being touted as a feature in a piece of interactive media...
yeah ive never read comic books much, but ive been into comics since i was a tyke. being an artist, i always look at pictures and joe mad was a huge influence on me in the early - mid 90s. i would LOVE to see a proper battle chasers videogame.. maybe to end what he started. anyone remember that the iron and the maiden project he worked on with former naughty dog'r jason rubin? joe mad has been involved in the game industry for a while so this is no surprise, and ive kind of "gotten over" his work, but he's still classic in my eyes.
Holy. SHIT. Holy shit! This goes beyond "do want" and ascends into the ranks of "DO NEED". I don't think I'll be able to get rid of this colossal nerd erection until I play the game myself.
Saw the HD video of this last night and I loved every bit of it but seriously hope we can play as all of the Horsemen. What I saw was extremely nice, though.
YEESSS. No bullshit about story or innovation or creativity (*cough* Prototype *cough* Too Human *cough*), just good ol' bad ass-ery. These developers deserve an award for least pretentious - and most bad ass - developer diary!
holy shit!! that looks fuckin AWESOME..it's about time games start looking "next gen" the way we all thought all the games would look on the 360 & PS3.
i only hope now that developers have had some time with the PS3 they'll be able to get all they can out of it..
What part of that looked "next-gen"(aka current generation)???
Still, it looked badass. I love macho games (only reason I bought Gears of War without knowing anything about it) and hope to make this part of my library. Sadly, coming from low-profile devs, I will probably wait for reviews and community reception.
I remember there being a game titled "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse"on a list of upcoming titles in a Nintendo Power like five years ago, but iirc it eventually got cancelled. Is this the same game?

Cars at demons?
That is a fucking brilliant concept. This looks like it could be one of my favourite games of all time. Thanks for the heads up Jim
Joe Mad. completely kicks ass. And the game looks ok too.
Lets hope for some Battle Chasers cameos.
That looks so awesome!
Kinda wish they modeled the four horsemen after Pratchett's vision in Good Omens though. Not that there's anything wrong with their vision.
And that car combat looks awfully familiar to Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Can't wait.
Transportation and Fiends you say?
Count me in.
Yeah, it reminds me a bit of the Hulk too. Looks pretty good so far though. Also, DARKSIDED.
Looks good, but I will keep my cynical hat firmly on until I know more.
NEED!
*jaw drops*
WANT!
Pleasepleaseplease have the gameplay to back up the badassness of the design.
Kickass.
It looks like God of War meets Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Plus maybe some of the horseback combat from LoZ: Twilight Princess.
Regardess, it looks really awesome. I hope it lives up to the hype we're generating.

Cars on demons.
i came.

And I like it.
Looks pretty awesome. I got over the whole car throwing thing after crackdown though. Jus reminds me of that.
But can you throw demons at cars?? Or are they holding out for the sequel??
It's an interesting concept, I hope it ends up as it's setting out.
@ Johnathan Holmes;
Yeah, but he ain't no Bryan Hitch. Too bad the combined otherwise decent talent pool of Mad and Loeb are sinking Ultimates faster than any month-long delays on Millar's run could ever could do.
There's no possible way they can fuck this up, I am excited.
Obviously I will only want to play as death.
YEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!! I want me some 4horsemansplz!
@ SuitcoatAvenger
Truth.
I try to believe that, like Highlander 2/3/etc..., The Ultimates 3 DOES NOT EXIST.

Damn, i thought you said DarkStalkers.

Hmmm I'm very interested by this. Why haven't I heard of this before?
holy shit! I'll take 12!
@ Demtor

I'll be keeping a close eye on you, Darksiders. Tread lightly...
The concept of this game is fucking sweet
Right now I need whatever the opposite of Viagra is so I can stop this MASSIVE ERECTION.
Holy. SHIT. Holy shit! This goes beyond "do want" and ascends into the ranks of "DO NEED". I don't think I'll be able to get rid of this colossal nerd erection until I play the game myself.
I hadn't seen this game until now. It looks really good, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Also, more four horsemen in games please.
But does it have a gun that fires shuriken and lightning?
Saw the HD video of this last night and I loved every bit of it but seriously hope we can play as all of the Horsemen. What I saw was extremely nice, though.
Woah, Joe Mad is a bamf, so this is even more badass by association.
Fucking awesome. They seem to be slight God Of War fans.
DO FUCKING WANT!
i have to admit... i did not expect to see cars...
YEESSS. No bullshit about story or innovation or creativity (*cough* Prototype *cough* Too Human *cough*), just good ol' bad ass-ery. These developers deserve an award for least pretentious - and most bad ass - developer diary!
This looks awesome. I look forward to moar news.
that's looking seriously badass.
It does, indeed, look awesome. Not sold on the 'throw cars at demons' thing, though. Nothing's going to beat shooting a giant robot from a guitar at another robot in the 'X Y at Z' category.
wow that does look cool!

So, God of War without the "God of"? I can dig it.
I think this is a step above God of War, honestly. Kind of like how God of War was a step above its predecessors.
But does it have a gun that fires shuriken and lightning?
The-Excel, I would actually be surpised if it didn't. Or at least something analagous to it. Nunchucks and Fire anyone?
Online multiplayer co-op epic boss battles. *drool*
Looks like a total god-of-war clone, even down to the scripted kill anims, I bet there's button-sequence actions.
I loved the monster waving the two bloody stumps in the air toward the end of that video. It's the little things that get me.
Last.
Also, DO WANT!
