Darkrai.com goes live: Pokemon's reputation continues to plummet photo

The Pokemon games are solid turn based RPGs. They also feature a world that is at times a clever parody of our own. Where humans in our world are obsessed with silly things like football and politics, the people of the Pokemon world are obsessed with Pokemon. Hearing the Pokemaniacs of the Pokemon games droll on and on about Pokemon this and Pokemon that actually puts dealing with real world obsessives in perspective.

Unfortunately, because of that crappy TV show and shameless multi-media promotions like this, Pokemon is far from being as respected as other names of Nintendo like Mario or Star Fox. This latest commercial for Pokemon, Darkrai.com, features another hidden monster to collect, likely through a future in-store event or forced purchase of another Pokemon product. That could be the upcoming Pokemon Ranger sequel, the upcoming straight to DVD Pokemon movie, Pokemon: The Rise of Darkrai, or any number of other Pokemon games, toys, or shows that are surely on the horizon.

You'll have to tune into the site periodically to find out just how you'll be able to catch this new pocket monster. Please take care along the way not to be caught yourself by the techniques Nintendo continues to use to try and make the world of Pokemon obsessed maniacs of their games into reality.

P.S.- The banner is a play off the old "Vote or Die" skit from South Park (link NSFW due to language). It's similarity to the now famous Pokemon TV show theme song (link NSFW due to awfulness) is positively striking, no?

To originally get Darkrai you had to go to some pokemon event when diamond and pearl came out, then you'd have a nightmare and catch him.
I feel bad I know that, but I guess it's nice to give those less unfortunate to grab him. If I had Diamond still I might pay attention.

Also, god..I like some screaming music, but that was horrible. My ears are bleeding, how the hell am I supposed to listen to Dexter?

It's true -- Pokemon's marketing makes it impossible to talk about how solid and deep the actual gameplay is. It's an accessible, yet really dense and replayable dungeon crawler that appeals to casual and hardcore RPG fans, and it's got a world that's *really* well fleshed out.

Too bad you can't say any of that without being bombarded by this kind of asshattery.

I wouldn't mind having some Japanese Poke Bread.

I'll be doing whatever I need to in order to obtain a Darkrai. I'm that kind of Poké-nerd, I will travel up my 'caught' list +1.

I want Darkrai. I'm totally up to going to Toys R Us and downloading Darkrai, then getting my ass kicked in a wi-fi battle by some little kids.

Then punching the little kids in the shoulder really hard, and consequently being kicked out after their totally not-hot moms bitch and moan about me just punching their kids.

Even though I'm the one who lost... what kind of world do we live in....

I'm enjoying myself some Pokemon Diamond and I'm not in the least bit embarrassed to say so.

I am annoyed that people throw it out as some sort of kiddie, Barbie Horse adventure piece of crap when it isn't at all. If you're going to be embarrassed about Pokemon then you should feel bad when you're sitting down with Mario or Final Fantasy. It's ass.

But really. It doesn't bother me that much. Sure, it's annoying, but hey. I'm having my fun with it and that's enough for me. The Nintendo marketing is bullshit, though. I completely agree with that.

Pokemon Red/Blue came out when I was in elementary school, I remember car-rides where we'd connect them and battle each other, it was like a pseudo-lan party. Now it's just "bleh", you might as well pick up Red and play that, since it has the same mechanics as every other Pokemon game made.

I'm forced to admit I've never completed a pokemon game, I'd always get stuck somewhere and give up.

@Necros

The only "promotion" Pokemon I ever got was Mew, and I used the glitch to do it. (At least I did it legitimately, right?)

As for this, yes, I believe the show has butchered the greatness of the games. The show used to be good in like the first season, but it's been bastardized now.

On the one hand, I can appreciate that they're trying to get people to continue playing the game, but on the other hand, I wish they had just let me have Darkrai back when I actually played Pokemon Pearl obsessively. Oh well, at least I got my Manaphy at E for All.

The Pokemon Theme is awesome. Its an ultra cheesy, over the top pop rock piece of epic amazingness. Yes its bad, but so bad that it rules.

Or maybe thats just my childhood addiction to everything remotely pokemon related. Either way...

You'd think with the wireless function of Pearl and Diamond that Nintendo could just send it to people. But that would be to easy.

I mean, what does it tell you about Nintendo of America that they allow for the release of at least one Pokemon DVD a year here in the states, while that awesome Animal Crossing movie remains unlocalized.

And don't even get me started on Mother 3.

@ Cutie Honey, actually, the SMB movie was the low point of Mario's reputation. As a result, he went into hiding for a little while after that. In Yoshi's Island, he was barely recognizable as the fat, over exposed plumber he was known to be. That wasn't by accident.

Unfortunately, that was one of the situations where South Park was assumed to be so over the top that it couldn't possibly be true, but sometimes the truth is way funnier than anything you could make up.

Yes, Vote or Die was an actual, real life slogan. Complete with t-shirts.

I already have Darkrai so whatever.. but the show was ok when it started, but now every season is so repetitive. Some of the movies are ok as well.
