Darkness 2 dev revealed via resume photo

While this bit of comic/gaming news didn't actually come out of Comic-Con, it's still incredibly well-timed. A recent resume posted by Emmanual Pappas of Digital Extremes shows that the company has been working on Darkness 2, the already confirmed, but little-known-about sequel, to the Starbreeze developed first-person shooter.

If you're not in the know about Digital Extremes, it's the fine developer behind Unreal and the multiplayer aspect of BioShock 2 among other things. It knows its shooters, that's for sure. As far as other details go, all we know is that there will be textures and a mansion of some sort.

The original game was definitely an interesting take on the genre, even if it didn't always work, so I'm looking forward to what Digital Extremes can do.

Oh hell yea, The Darkness kicked ass. Easily had the best finishers I've ever played, nothing is as satisfying as putting a .45 to a mans head and having demons rip out his heart.

The first wasn't perfect by any means but was still one of the most interesting FPS games this gen.

HYPED.

The first games storyline and pacing was amazing. If they can keep that for the second game, it's a buy for sure. The multiplayer had some cool ideas, but it was too laggy.

FINALLY! I loved the original, great story, powers, and gunplay. I just wish the online multiplayer wasn't such a mess. Oh well, I am so excited for this.

Here's hoping they not only don't fuck it up, but improve it. The mechanics could definitely use some tweaking.

And yes. Mike Patton. Moar.

The only reason The Darkness was any good was because of Starbreeze.

They definitely need to open NYC up in the sequel. The city felt like a series of boxes. And sometimes it felt like they took away player control for some of the best scenes. The powers shoulve been versatile enough to allow you to do the things you saw in cut scenes during gameplay.

That said, I still have my copy and think it was an excellent game held back from greatness by either design/hardware limitations

YESSSSS! I was just replaying this last week! Definitely one of the best FPS' out there. The story was so well done, I introduced this game to a buddy and he was saying 'Oh shit!' A lot during the cut-scenes and how this would make an awesome movie. I wasn't a fan of mike patton though. He should stick to 1980's pop/rock. /OnlyHalfJoking

Let's not forget their little and underappreciated bargain bin gem known as Dark Sector.

Shit story, fun everything else.

And yeah, I want a sequel to The Darkness. However, I'll miss Starbreeze. Are they still working hard on the Syndicate reboot for EA?

Btw, it must also be noted that Digital Extremes has done a lot of contract outsource development for other studios. Starbreeze could actually very well be still developing the main game, and Starbreeze could either be constributing single player or multiplayer resources.

A game that defined a whole summer for me. It was flawed, yes, but it forced itself into your memories. And Mike goddamn Patton elevated it through the ceiling.

One of my all time faves too! I just wish Starbreeze was making it. Hope Digital Extremes puts the same focus on non-action NPC interaction that made the world feel so real and full of sorrow.

The Darkness is an amazing game save for the multiplayer. The last time I played there were only 2 other people online and it was still laggy as hell. As long as they don't pull a Crackdown 2 with this sequel I'm up for it.

As a massive UberNerd of The Darkness' comic franchise, I was a little let down by the game. It worked well on its own, but not as a part of the franchise.

It's great that the games may bring more people to read the comic's/graphic novel's, though!

Bleh. I got bored after some Hell train. Musta been the gunplay. Not interested in a Darkness 2 and doubly uninterested in anything Digital Extremes has in the works (unless it's supporting another company in making a game).

DE has been bombing gamers with dud games since they finished working on Unreal Tourney 2k4.

@Press X to Smack My B* Up ,

"DE has been bombing gamers with dud games since they finished working on Unreal Tourney 2k4."

First of all, all DE did was make maps and maybe a couple playable characters in UT 2k4. That's about it.

Secondly, they haven't been "bombing gamers with dud games". Something about video games turns their fans into mouth-foaming rejects who believe that a game doesn't get Universal 99/100's on every review then it's a bomb. Or what's really hilarious is that if they just don't like a game, then it's an automatic bomb. Not true.

Dark Sector received good reviews. The Bioshock 2 Multiplayer received good reviews. Everything before that isn't even this gen. So I honestly have no idea why of all random companies you'd choose to pick on this one. How strange.

Dark Sector was really underrated. For what it was (a game where you slice dudes up in slo-mo) it worked well. It was also one of the first "next-gen" games I ever played.
Haven't played The Darkness, but this post has inspired me to ring it up on my goozex queue. It's been sitting on hold for months, just waiting for something to push it over the edge...and this works.
Needless to say, I'm excited.

This is semi good news. I liked the first game a lot despite some problems it had. I really really got sick of having to walk through that subway a million times. I am a bit worried since this sequel is being made by a different developer than the first one. The Darkness had a really good story and voice acting for a fps.

still, without Mike Patton it would totally suck.

I don't know how they do a sequel to this. The ending in the first was pretty 'final'. Who cares, though, this was one of my fave FPS games ever!
