Wait a second... *clears throat*
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Because a buttonless, lo-tech tablet really stands up to the PS3/Xbox 360.
I'd plaster the iPad on my wall. Booyah.
I can kind of understand people who believe it will take over mobile gaming, but who wants to play games on a device at home which is inferior to a home console OR a home computer? Touch controls over a controller or a mouse? Seriously?
Why not just use any kind of bluetooth controller? Not sure why it'd have to be an itouch/iphone
I'm all for the iPad. I'm all for people who enjoy playing games on the iPad. But when I game I require 4 things: Drink, munchies, something to put my feet on, and a BIG SCREEN to see what the frack I'm doing.
Mobile gaming? No way. Mobile gaming is popular because everyone has a phone on them at all times. People who own iPad's don't carry them everywhere, and at over $500 the average person isn't going to buy one like they do with smart phones. Comparing the iPad to console gaming is the best comparison in terms of audience size. Quantity quality of content is another story.
"So true. Forgot Nintendo puts out a new DS every year."
Hyperbole, much?
How's a hardware revision every two years comparable to what apple does with the iPhone/iPad?
The DS changed CPU a grand total of one time in 5 years, for crying out loud.
As much as I love my PC and growing pile of consoles/handhelds, there are some games for which I think touchscreens are actually an ideal form of input; Plants vs Zombies, for example -- the iPad version is so easy to control simply because you can touch multiple things simultaneously (rendering the gold magnet unnecessary, for example).
I understand Apple has a chunk of the games market right, and ignoring them would be ignorant, but we are giving them way too much credit, and all of these claims of them eclipsing the gaming market and becoming the dominant gaming force in the industry are getting ridiculous. What Apple has right now is good, but I don't know how successful they would be in grabbing the attention of Killzone and Halo players.
iPad sold a million units in it's first weekend which absolutely dwarfs any consoles initial sales numbers. Unfortunately for you disbelievers, Mr. Carter is right. All of you hardcore gamers trying to resist this change are nothing more than a bunch of old curmudgeons grumbling about the good old days.
One word - Android. The convenience of an i-whatever without having to support a tyranical regime.
Fuck Apple. Fuck them in there stupid asses.
I respectfully disagree. From a straight gaming perspective, the Apple App Store is leagues superior to any similar service.
Don't get me wrong, I have no loyalties here. If/When another App Market overtakes the Apple App Store in terms of quality games, I'll gladly jump ship. Until then, I love my iPhone and haters gon' hate.
No hate for the iPhone or iPad, and I'm absolutely not afraid of change. I just don't see it at this point. Sure, the iPad/iPhone may infringe on handheld devices because so many people own one, but consoles? Yes, people game on their iPads/iPhones, but they don't buy an iPad solely FOR gaming.
Like Scissors stated, what about Killzone, Halo? For that matter COD, Gears of War, or perhaps a game like Mag? I shudder to think of a game like Mass Effect or Skyrim on a device like an iPad.
Maybe I'm missing something? Until they show me how they'll get me to leave my HDTV or PC for the smaller iPad screen, I'll be happy playing the role of an old curmudgeon grumbling. ;)
I'm perfectly fine with change in a sense as long as i know that the amount of money im putting into something makes it mine free and clear, that's not the case with any apple product if you read the fine print then you don't own your Iphone/ipad/ipod you just lease the product and if apple finds you doing something with it they don't like they have the right to take it back.
I personally don't mod any of my systems but i like to know that i paid 300/400/600 and i end up owning it at the end up the day and not that i'm leasing it, by all rights apple should allow you to purchase any upgrades at 1/2 the cost if you don't own the product just turn in the old one and get a new one at least then i wouldn't feel like i'm being raped every time they come out with a new product.
As far as the Ipad taking over for gaming touch screens are great as long as you keep it in good shape and clean it, but i prefer to have a controller in hand when playing a game unless it's a card game then i don't mind the whole touch screen.
