Darkest of Days revealed, like Quantum Leap in FPS form photo

A new time traveling FPS from Phantom EFX has been shown for the first time since 2007 via MSNBC. Called Darkest of Days, players have to go back in time to deal with a mysterious force that has been craftily tinkering with history, placing important people in life-threatening situations so they cannot perform their historically ordained role.

An example given is during the American Civil War, where a supply sergeant who was supposed to survive the battle has been moved to a unit that gets thoroughly slaughtered, thus altering time. It's up to the player to stop this crazy thing, and return time to normal through the most violent and bloody means possible.

It looks a bit rough right now, but I'm guessing it's early footage and will be improved. The premise is really interesting and the action looks incredibly intense, so here's hoping that we'll see something really awesome from the team. We'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Interesting concept. Hope it actually pans out. Either way, its probably going to be one of those self-fulfilling prophecies where they find out that history was "supposed" to unravel the way they saw it as altered and their "fixing" of the timeline only changed history so that it would play out properly in their eyes.

Well, I like this, sounds interesting, kind of like Timecop in a way, and that film was superb.

Hurry up and get this on my 360, please.

I had an idea like this for a strictly MP game. Hopefully this has awesome multiplayer where each map is a different point in history with different weapons. Cause that's what I wanted.

I never played Timesplitters, so no comparisons from me. But, uh, it would be pretty neat to use weapons from that era. Or, maybe you can use weapons that don't belong and push the game towards a bad ending where you screw up history even further!

That probably won't happen, but it would be kinda funny to singlehandedly win the (subject war here) with a deathray. :3

By the way, apparently you can watch full episodes of Quantum Leap on NBC.com, or so says the chaser thingy after Chuck this past Monday.

When I initially heard about this I thought it'd be a legitimately interesting game where you were constantly having to use period-faithful weapons; you'd go to WWI and be restricted to bolt rifles and mustard gas, then you're in the Civil War and you've gotta deal with shitty muskets and inaccurate pistols, and every level would present an entirely new arsenal and an entirely new gameplay type.

And instead it looks like you basically get to take assault rifles into the Civil War. Jesus Christ, game designers can be fucking boring.

Timesplitters was great, Timeshift was pretty fun and intense too. I wonder how this one will turn out to be..

@Anthony: You indeed seem to be using authentic weapons of the time. Perhaps when you run out of ammo of your modern weapon, you'll have to make do with the ones you pick.

However, while trying to save the history, you are killing hundreds of people who might not normally have died, and whose grand grand sons might be making important interactions.. You are still changing the history at a great pace.. You gotta love paradoxes.

@Anthony: seriously if you were able to venture back in time would you honestly not take any new technology with you? Bull if you say yes your at least taking kevlar. If i were to go back to the middle ages where everyone is fighting with catapults, swords, maces, bows and arrows, etc, or any other period of time i would head to my closest wally world first to pick up a rifle with a scope and load up on ammunition...survival of the fittest. As with alot of fps games you are a one man army that has to save the world, so you want some kind of an edge.

That actually looks really cool. I look forward to using high tech weaponry against armies from the "bronze age".

So you're going to repair time by going back and using high tech weaponry? I liked the period weapons idea better.
