Darkest of Days gets dated, you should probably care photo

Darkest of Days is a game I hadn't even heard about until recently, and I get the feeling I'm not alone. Sure, it's a first-person shooter, but the premise itself is pretty neat, and Phantom EFX seems to be taking a different approach to the genre.

Someone (or something) is altering the past by placing highly important historical figures in situations which they cannot possibly survive in. It's -- you guessed it -- up to you to stop whatever sinister forces are at work before someone inadvertently kills a bug which causes the present to be a horrible, lifeless wasteland.

And since you're going back in time, yes, high-tech weapons will allow you to kick some major ass. That said, from the look of this video, you should be able to use the standard weapons of whichever time period you are in as well.

Oh, and the release date? It's going to be September 8 for both PC and Xbox 360.

Yeah, this is the first I'm hearing of it, but it does sound intriguing. I'll have to keep an eye out.

That gun made out of stone looks sooo out of place and I love it. Will be keeping my eye out for Darkest of Days!

Daikatana done right, then?

Jericho *almost* executed the idea right.

I could be down with hucking grenades into formations of Roman legion soldiers.

Sounds like a boring Timesplitters ripoff to me.

Then again, the TS series has never graced PC, so I'd say I'm grateful for a substitute.

I thought this looked pretty interesting until it transpired that you had a full arsenal of weapons, rather than whatever was available in each period.

Peronally, I thought it sounded more interesting to jump from the trenches of WWII with a Bren or M1, to Ancient Rome where you find yourself armed with a spear to run people through with.

This seems really cool. Surprising, as I haven't cared about an FPS in a while.

Has all the makings of a cult game with flawed gameplay but brilliant concept !

Would Jesus have been crucified if he had a machine gun?

strongly reminds me of codemaster games like turning point. its a great concept but with codemaster they come up with great concept like german attacking new york and that game with robots during civil war and turn it to crap. i hate them for taking potentially good idea and waste it because they suck.
darkest of day is a great idea though not original, i hope they dont mess it up like codemaster would.

What was the name of that old arcade game with commandos from the future traveling through different time periods... It played a bit like Smash TV and had a cool joystick that could be rotated left or right to change the direction you fire in.

This could be cool. The idea of mowing down knights with a machine gun is pretty sweet.

There was a series of books years ago ( prolly 20 or so years ) that was along these lines. I remember one of them had something to do with Robert E. Lee being given a Kalashnikov, and another had something to do with the Allies getting an alien weapon or something. This game is now relevant to my interests.
