Darkest of Days darkening Xbox Live with a demo photo

Today is a grim and sorry day in the history of Xbox Live, as the worst first-person-shooter to ever grace the Xbox 360 has a demo. You too can now sample a mere fraction of the horror that inspired our 1/10 review and caused me so much pain I was almost in tears by the time the credits rolled.

Want to know why there aren't many civil war games out there? This title, with its love of single-shot, slow-loading muskets, will quite definitively show you why. It is the metaphysical concept of pain made real and reproduced in plastic disc form, and I do not wish good things upon those who inflicted it upon the world. As far as I'm concerned, the creation of this game is akin to a major terrorist attack on the United States and the developer should be tried for treason.

So yeah, enjoy the demo!

The civil war game Linde and Anthony discussed creating circa Podtoid 97 sounded amazing, but like you said, this isn't it.

Its a civil war game??? From the logo there i would have guessed it was some sort of sci-fi shooter that has something to do with a solar eclipse.

It's both! Hence the poor execution!

I downloaded the PC demo when Anthony posted about it but my laptop couldn't handle it so I'm kinda happy that I'll get to try one of the worst reviewed games in Dtoid history.

Uh, did you finish playing the game before you reviewed it? It's not a civil war game, it's a time travel game. You get to use fully automatic assault rifles and laser-guided RPG's against masses of enemy soldiers. I do have to say, the voice acting is absolutely terrible.

@Konrad9

"Uh, did you finish playing the game before you reviewed it?"

Translation: "I just like to talk shit even though I didn't bother reading the review.

Luckily, I did that for you.
From the review:
"...I am actually ashamed that I now have an Achievement on my Xbox Live profile that reads, 'Completed Darkest of Days.'"

What that?
You enjoyed Darkest of Days and heartily recommend it?
Best game you've ever played, you say?

I've played it for a bit, and although it is generally a bad game, the sections where you use modern weaponry in historical periods are kind of fun, and a bit innovative as well.

That being said, since my MA work is on historical video games, I need examples of bad games to compare with good ones. Also, getting it on the Internetz means that I don't have to worry about getting $50(?) of enjoyment out of it.

Again, I found the game quite good. So did several review sites, like PC Gamer, and your own Anthony Bu(i)rch.

The old weapons are what you might call DIFFERENT, which I know to some means BAD, but not to others.

I'll have to try the 360 demo and see if it is a really bad port... I have a feeling it is.

I had my suspicions that this game was shit all through the demo. But what really sold it for me was when control was taken from me so I could be walked through a cornfield for about two minutes and then participate in one of those old timey regimental fire line's. It was another 3 minutes of shooting guys 10 feet away from my with a muzzle loading musket. Thats when I turned the demo off.

I know that the controls feel like that of an N64 game, but if you like history and science fiction like me, you can definetly feel some suspension of disbelief. Which we should all go into games with a good mindset like we are really being thrown into a world and story and not be so picky.

Lol, the DoD people were accidentally racist to me at PAX, so I'll pass.

I really wanted this game to be good. We need more time travel games. Something about collapsing the universe under the pressure of a paradox is just the type of power we all should yield.
