Darkest of Days, the worst first-person-shooter of this generation, is being adapted into what is sure to be a terrible movie. The time-traveling game that made no sense and played like Hell on Earth is being scripted by Douglas Cook and David Weisberg, with Joe Roth attached as producer. No, we are not joking.
In fairness, the game will probably be a better movie than a videogame, although the original premise will have to be altered considerably. The idea of an American Civil War soldier being teleported into the future and not going instantly insane or even thinking to question it was too big a stretch, even by videogame standards.
I really cannot believe this is a thing that's happening, though.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And another thing: No Uwe Boll? Huh?
....heh.
Firstly the graphics really looked good (on my PC). Secondly the gun-play was pretty intense, especially when you had to count every shot you took with the musket. I know some shooter crazed people would say: Dude it's cooler when it's non stop action. I would say: Really every game has to be this way. Variety is the spice of life. Thirdly the use of modern guns was damn cool when facing Civil War soldiers or Germans or Russians or Romans. It was like Serious Sam with a plot. Fourth the gadget that targeted only historical important people also was original and made you think before you shoot. It was like you were shooting at a crowd of soldiers but you had to watch out in the crowd not to hit civilians or shoot them in the legs, not shooting like a gun craze maniac. An element that not to many games have. Fifth when you shoot an historical important characters time stopped and the time police attacked you and if you were as good at shooters as I am, you could kill them and have modern weapons at the start of every level. Sixth you use an awesome tracking sniper, try that level it's intense. Seventh you ride a Zeppelin and drop bombs from above. Eight you have to escape an concentration camp and it's one of the most depressing and bleak levels I think I played in a game in recent years.
I got to admit, I died allot and sometimes I rage quit but it reminded me allot of games from the 8bit era that were hard but as you played them you got better and better, not like some other games out there that literally hold your hand while playing. Oh forgot Ninth the flamethrower vs the Romans EPIC and Tenth you'll have to see how crazy the credits roll. Oh and that game deserves a sequel more than other games out there. My opinion and I'd recommend a rent for the game because it has some interesting ideas and some intense gunplay you don't see every day in shooters.
For every crappy video game movie that gets made, there is like 20 other video game movie scripts to be had.
They had people from the various time periods in costume there. Pompeii, the World Wars, etc; just like in the game.
I was just watching the video when the guy in the Civil War costume asked me if I wanted to "change the course of the war"
Being an African-American male, I declined. But I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing though.
Well, noting that Citzen Kane barely made enough money to cover its own budget, it is be rare to say the least that a movie that a movie is both widely artistically appreciated and record breaking financially.
BUT DARKEST OF DAYS CAN TURN THAT ALL AROUND.
I GUESS.
The only film that has done 'modern machine guns in the past' well, is Time Cop, which had a 'one man gold heist from civil war soldiers' opening scene, and it was a very brief cool scene too. A whole film with such ideas could be groovy, and at least the devs of the game will be able to claw back the game development money, plus further profits. Good for them, IMO.
