One of my most anticipated DS games of 2010 is Dark Void Zero. Why? Because I trust Capcom when it comes to NES-era gaming. Other than a few outliers like Street Fighter 2010, I loved just about every title they put out on the NES.
As poetic as it is in theory to be fueled by faith alone, it's even better to have your pre-release videogame excitement powered by stuff you actually know. As always, Capcom-Unity manager Seth Killian is there to help. According to Seth, "Dark Void Zero feels to me a little like a cross between NES Bionic Commando in terms of level design, and Section Z in terms of mechanics. Good clean platform-y, shoot-y fun." I hope it has a soundtrack to match. Bionic Commando and Section Z have amazing music.
Speaking of which, Dark Void Zero's soundtrack apparently had a lot to do with the game getting made in the first place. That whole PlayChoice-10 thing? Probably all a silly ruse. Seth says that "It [Dark Void Zero)] was one of those ideas that sort of started out as a joke while listening to Bear McCreary’s 8-bit mix of the Dark Void theme, like 'wouldn’t it be funny if we did this?'... and then we actually did it."

I've been saying this for some time now: Bear McCreary is THE best composer for television, and he's been robbed of an Emmy for many years now. It's not just that he makes great music, he makes complex music. What describes it best is that it's multi-layered, which is also basically a prerequisite for a good game these days. I suggest anyone interested in music or game OSTs Google for his Q&A session on the music of Dark Void, it's just brilliant. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that I wouldn't be looking forward to this one if it wasn't for him doing the soundtrack.
There's always something like this that comes along and makes it impossible for me to avoid buying a certain console. I don't have a DSi and wasn't planning on getting one yet but... I just HAVE to play something like this.
Everybody is name-dropping Street Fighter 2010 lately. Are there any games with 2011 in the title? I want to be the first to start spewing about it next year.
SF2010 would have been a lot better with better controls... It was just too hard to actually HIT things. The music was amazing though and I wanted to love the game because I loved the music.
I do like Street Fighter 2010, I just don't love it. It's the only Capcom game in the NES that I don't love.
Actually, now that -PL- has reminded me about the amazing music, I'm going to boot it up right now. Haven't played it since it first came out. Just because I didn't love it then doesn't mean I wont love it now.
