I've only really used GFWL with Batman: Arkham City and not much else, and I've never had a problem with it, other than the fact that I can't be logged onto my Xbox and the game at the same time. What are people's major gripes with the service? It seems to run about as smoothly as Xbox Live for me, and it ties in my pre-existing friends and gives me achievements I actually care about.
I really don't see the issue, but people bitching for the sake of bitching, I guess. The only DRM I've legitimately had problems with was Securom.
I've only played games with GFWL pretty recently and have no problems. It's just Xbox Live on my PC. I heard it was horrible, but I imagine they must have patched it, because it's not. It just doesn't really do much of anything. That's my big slam on GFWL. I wish it did more stuff.

Also, I don't see how online play is a "key element" in Dark Souls. You can't really play with your friends, so it's pretty much just random people showing up in your world and trolling you.
... I really hope that Namco, and Bandai both would not use that forsaken service. Bleh! Personally I am untrusting of most (if not all) forms of digital distribution. Unless it deals with a significantly older title (which has no physical distribution anymore) I will only then purchase it in said form of digital distribution (if the price is right too - of course).

However, it is not due-in-short because, of the industry itself.

Either way Steam and GFWL are both garbage. I long for the day when you could just buy a PC game and just run it with out installing extra software registering the hell out of it having to make profiles and getting limited installs, hour long installs, drm. damn pirates ruined PC gaming for everyone.
I imagine this isn't about DRM it's more this is a port of the 360 version and since the net code will be similar it's less work for the developer to port it.

This likely just means the port will be crappy. "Press start" upon title screen, can't edit .ini files, no FXAA/MSAA, "you must log-on to play", saves don't work right, "GFWL must update --- update failed".

After their colossal failing with handling Warhammer 40k II, you would think developers would stop using GFWL.
Everyone that's complaining about GFWL needs to calm down. Have anyone one of you use it recently? I can tell that it has improved a lot over the past 5 years.
If there is an option, I would rather have them use Steamworks or Origin than GFWL. I played Fallout 3 and GTA4 with GFWL and it really is the pits.

Origin is shit. GFW is fine. The UI is fine. The infrastructure is fine. The online is fine. Gamers will bitch about anything these days. Drop the self righteous bullshit. It's tiring.
GFWL is the reason I cannot enjoy Section 8: Prejudice on PC. Can't say I blame Dark Souls fans for not wanting that attached to their PC experience of the game.

The problem most of us have with DRM isn't its existence, it's when it causes issues for paying customers. The vast majority of us feel that Steam does, in fact, *add* value to a game. We don't get excited that a game is going to be on Steam because we're stupid, we get excited because we know that playing, installing, updating, and doing mulitplayer with that game is going to be easy and not a pain in the ass. So stop insulting our intelligence. We know damn well what Steam is.

Bioshock works fine, no problems compared to all the launch problems way back then.

Dead Rising 2, tons of install problems for gfwl. Failed about 30 update attempts, 5 with w7. Saves never worked again. started fresh.

Multiplayer in Dark Souls relies strongly on latency, and during online play with GFWL I've experienced more lag than any other PC games. It's find for single play games but fuck this.
I never really had a problem with GFWL until they made it so keys were links to the live account. Me and my brother shared a PC at one time, so when I got Bulletstorm, he could only use my account to play. Other than that, I have no problems with it.
Considering all the hoops PC gamers like me have traditionally had to jump through to get games to run, GFWL is no big deal.
CD keys for PC games have existed for years, so DRM is not a new thing. Get a grip.

It's not that I don't like Games for Windows Live. It's just that I don't exactly trust it after it bjorked up my Arkham City saves. It's like a roommate who pays the bills and rent on time, but you suspect might be stealing your chocolate granola squares out of the cupboard. You ignore it because a few missing granola squares and the occasional AWOL bowl of raisin bran is worth somebody who isn't late with the money and does the dishes. And then he rapes your sister. So you blame yourself for not taking a stand against granola pilfering rapists.

I had my Hotmail account hacked and blocked by MS and as my GFWL is the same account I lost all my GFWL savegames.
